Hello,

Does anyone here have experience making their own nasal snuff? I have few packets of SG snuff left, but I was thinking of making my own too.

I have collected cigar clippings in ziplock bag for later use (I was thinking about smoking them in pipe, but now I'm thinking I would like to turn them into snuff). Can I just ground these up and it's good to go or do I need to add something like baking soda etc.?

Also can snuff be made from cigarette tobacco? I have heard some people make their own snus from cigarette tobacco. I don't want to use pipe tobacco for this, it's too precious puffy

I may actually turn few Macbaren blends that bite me into snuff. To give me some tobacco satisfaction for the winter. I'm still wondering if the tobacco should be more alkaline and I should add sodium carbonate? Guess I'll just have to try it...

go search Snuffhouse.org they have more then enough info about it. Oh and Semois makes a pretty incredible snuff.

I will check that out. I did glance at some recipes but they seemed awfully complicated. Do you have personal experience at making your own? Any tips or what to avoid? Opinions seem to differ whether to add something alkaline in the mix or not. Some say it makes the nicotine much more potent and others say that it hurts the nose and just snuff a bigger amount at once.

I would think that the most difficult part of making a good snuff would be accidentally getting particles that are too large and cause problems with your sinuses or even cause a respiratory infection. When I work with certain chemicals in metalsmithing, I have a stacked set of sieves that separate a dry chemical out into sizes with different sized pores in the sieves. I don't know what an appropriate size for particles are in snuff... it doesn't get as fine as microns does it? But, even if so, you can sometimes find stacked particle separators made of a cheap plastic at chemical or chemistry supply places. They look like stacked little cups with a sieved bottom. But, if it has to be ground down into microns, you could at least filter it down to whatever the smallest particulate is for your set, and then just keep regrinding the rest. The snuff I have is pretty darn small in particulate size, but I don't know the exact size. It is more like a greasy dust. But, of course you know this if you use snuff.

I think my mind jumps straight to this, because snuff just causes me to sneeze my head off, so size would be a worry of mine, in making my own.

I was thinking just using an electric coffee grinder and then using mortar and pestle to finish it. Using sometype of sieve is a good idea but I think that when using the snuff and putting it on my hand I could spot the bigger particles atleast. I think a bigger risk to respiratory tract would be to make it too fine and risk inhaling it?

I have only used Samuel Gawiths Kendal Brown snuff so far as it's hard to come by here (these days impossible to buy since no online trade). This particular snuff at least doesn't make me sneeze at all, not much burn either. It isn't ground fine like chalk, more like coarse powder.

Did someone pass laws against shipping snuff recently? My pipe club used to do huge orders of the stuff a year or so ago. We ordered from UK and had shipped to Alabama. Big boxes of the tiny little things.

I'm not in USA. I live in Finland. They banned online tobacco sales here at the end of 2016 if I remember correctly. It's Finnish government and EU being antitobacco. So I can't order any type of tobacco anymore.

people sieve their snuff clothes are a popular choice. Though size of grind is more personal preference which have a huge effect on rate of nicotine release. The hardest part is getting it properly alkalized. Though stronger tobaccos really don't need that, like semois works perfectly fine just ground up. Oh and if it's too big it's just going to fall out of your nose before it's got the time to have effect (snuff works basically the same way brewing tea works but inside your nose, which is why snuff goes in does nothing and then suddenly you get more nicotine dumped into your blood stream then a cig a.k.a. why if you use snuff you should time it for right before you need nicotine.) and finer snuffs seem stronger because they work faster and larger grinds are more time released but stay sating for longer.

PACT which states you can only mail whole leaf, seeds, pipe tobacco, and cigars but other things with tobacco can't go through the mail. Neat legal fact you can order tobacco from England because the mail treaties we signed with England are considered more binding. So you can order snuff from England and it's fine but if you order snuff it has to be sent by basically UPS and signed for. PACT is a great example of bipartisan shenanigans screwing over the people but helping business interests (seriously it's clearly designed to protect the cigarette market and the american dip industry.) And no despite what they said buying tobacco online doesn't fund jihadists. You think people are scared of the deeming regulations you have no idea the bricks snuffers and snusers where collectively shitting before hand. And thank you God or Gods of choice there are two guys out there that actually either are too stubborn as in Roderick of Toque snuff who doesn't give a damn about our laws, and Dave at Mr. Snuff who hired lawyers to find the loopholes to save his business. Cause without those two fellows snuff would either be dead for most of us or cost significantly more like snus because of shipping.

Tell me about it. There were maybe five actual blood diamonds ever to come out of Africa. The diamond industry, which is one big monopoly created that movie and faked news reports to get people to hate "BLOOD DIAMONDS" Which basically stopped the sales of all used diamonds by wiping out their value, in lieu of people having to use new diamonds which the value is all controlled by one company in secret. I refuse to deal in diamonds. They are basically worthless. An emerald or ruby has a much more transparent value market, and they are much prettier, IMO. If someone just has to have a diamond, they can go to a chain store to be ripped off.

I never thought much about Diamonds as in liked them much until seeing a really nice one. A really great diamond looks more like magic but that's one out of a decent number that didn't just seem plain. Yeah give me a colourful gem any day. And yeah diamonds aren't the rareity people think they are, it's just controlled by basically a monopoly.

In the UK snuff is the only type of tobacco product which isn't taxed so it's also the cheapest you can buy. Therefore making snuff from pipe tobacco is not very cost effective

When I last stripped the ribs off of some of my homegrown, I cut a little piece of stem and started chewing on it. I'm not a dipper or chewer, but I had heard of tobacco farmers doing this. And, it wasn't long till the I got the spins and had to lay down in the dirt for a while. It was quite overwhelming.
