Making a case for a vintage meer

I have a vintage Meer that has the classic fitted case that is, unfortunately, broken. I have tried repairing it but have been unsuccessful. I'm looking for ideas about how to create a new case in the spirit of an old, traditional one. Anyone done this before? How?

IIRC, Astas Meerschaum will make cases for you.

I've been in communication with several carvers over the years. Really fascinating stuff.
