Hmm, this does have me thinking...

Gilmore is interesting and I am a Sun Ra fan. Tempted to say Ornette Coleman but not sure he would fit in. Maybe I'll go with Eric Dolphy.

Oscar Peterson on Piano or maybe Red Garland or...

Kenny Burrell - guitar (Grant Green if Kenny is busy)

Pretty good with Mingus on bass

Art Blakey - drums

Dolphy would definitely be my second choice for sax. I've been revisiting his album with The Latin Jazz Quintet and there's no doubt in my mind he can fit into any ensemble! Love his work on Ezz-thetics with George Russell aswell.

I don't have extensive exposure to jazz, nor any actual knowledge of music in general, but this sounds fun. My list is just some of my favorites, not sure how they would work together, but oh well...

Trumpet - Miles Davis
Guitar - Wes Montgomery
Sax - Cannonball Adderley
Piano - Oscar Peterson
Drums - Art Blakey
Bass - ? (Shame on me for not paying enough attention to have an opinion here)

Impossible! But many of the greats got together for some good collaborations.

I'm lost for drummers, too much to sort through for me for any sax or horns. But give me Jimmy or Jimmy or Joey on the organ, Warren Wolf or Joe Locke on vibes, Brubeck or Barron on piano, Ron Carter on bass and that's a great start for me.

Miles was notoriously a big critic of Oscar Peterson actually, but if I could play like Oscar I wouldn't care in the slightest what other people thought

Love to see some Gerry Mulligan appreciation. Bari is the most underrated sax in my opinion, sounds absolutely amazing when you have a someone who knows what they're doing on it
