4rth of July and I got a rant. Not good, I know. I always try to buy American on what I have a choice though I live abroad. If it was not for customs fees, availablity etc. I would be collecting and smoking some American made pipes too. Well, my rant goes like this, I'm off for my two week shift starting on Wednesday, building a hydro power plant in Norway. I thought today I would go and buy some Carhartt clothes. Right before I was going to take a jacket, jeans and a shirt up to the counter to pay; I looked at the tags.. MADE IN VIETNAM! I put them right back on the racks. I should'nt let things irritate me, but that did. The loss of American Manufacturing is one of the worst things I know. Happy 4rth of July, and sorry for the bummer thread.

Just try to find anything really made in America at Wally World. Gets harder daily. As for American pipes. There are lots of talented carvers here.

You even have to look carefully at Red Wings Boots now. Only some are still made here, the rest are all Chinese. They used to confine foreign manufacture to their lower brands like Worx, but now there are Chinese ones sporting the Red Wings name.
If you want a good pair of jeans, try the All American Clothing Co.. They have shirts and jackets too, but their jeans are the best value.

Well I'm doing my part right now, smoking my Dr. Grabow Royal Duke poker (Sparta N.C.) filled with Spilman Mixture (E. Hoffman, Chicago) and keeping it lit with my Zippo (Bradford PA.). I'm sure there are a number of good high grades made here but don't forget you really can't go wrong with a good ol American made Grabow (or Kaywoodie for that matter).

I knew we were near the end of civilization when I found out Schrade knives were being made in China now. I'll have to take extra special care of my U.S. made Uncle Henry, I refuse to replace it with an Uncle Henry (Uncle Ling?) made in China.

AMERICAN MADE PIPES. Paul Bonacquisti, cigarsandpipes.com, Bill Feuerbach, (Kaywoodie Pipes), Bob Swanson, PerryWhitePipes.com., Dr. Bob Keiss, DrBobPipes.com. Just four of my favorite AMERICAN pipe makers.

Just a few of the American made pipes I own and recommend:

EJH (Eric Heberling)

J. Alan (Jeff Gracik)

Larry Roush

Rad Davis

BAW (Bruce Weaver)

Brian Ruthenberg

Kirk Bosi

Jack Howell

Thomas James

Brad Pohlmann

Todd Johnson

Mark Tinsky
Sure, some are kind of pricey but they’re all of the highest quality (the way American made products SHOULD be.) Actually EJH and Bosi pipes (when you can find them) are extremely economical for American artisan-made pipes.

Sorry for your luck of the draw but we have plenty of american pipe makers still around. If we maintain a high standard of support for them it will undoubtedly continue to maintain/grow.

I have several Edwards pipes, which I think were originally made in France, then moved to US manufacturing in the 70's or 80's. Not sure where Bentons are made now, since Edward's pipe shops now sell those. If I remember right, the Benton was a model of Edward's pipes originally.

I always go for U.S. made where the option exists. This particularly is true with tools. Craftsman tools are still mostly made in the USA. Klein, Channellock and Chapman are some that I can think of in my tool box. I quit buying Kobalt and similar box-store crap, the fuckin things are junk.
