Anyone who remembers my post of my latest TAD haul will remember a photo that included a tin of MacBaren Symphony. This was the tin that I decided to pop first. I have given it a couple of smokes and have decided that it is rather nice. Upon giving it a good, solid light, it tastes very strongly of burley, a very heavy, nutty, almost bitter flavor, but not bitter in a bad way. The bitterness is contrasted by a slight sweetness of Virginia, and the two flavors intermingle to create a pleasant smoke. There is also unsweetened Cavendish that helps to neutralize the smoke when the Burley gets too heavy. My only complaint was that it burned a bit hot, but I think that was carelessness on my part as I did not let the tobacco dry out any before smoking. It is a broken flake, so it burns very slow. I loaded it into a tiny Dublin shaped pipe and got a good half hour smoke out of it. All in all, a fairly good "all day" blend if you like a strong burley flavor.

Burning hot is a criticism of many MacBaren tobaccos. I didnt like MacBaren when I first tried their blends because I thought the same thing. If you can get the hang of puffing a little slower, they make some really good quality and affordable blends.

I let three bowls dry out last night and it improved the flavor and reduced the heat dramatically. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite smokes.

No matter how many times I try it... I keep finding this blend bland and boring. PLUS it does burn very hot, one of the hottest burning blends that I can recall.

I recently purchased a tin of MB white (Standard Blend) and, like many of you have suggested, with some drying time it became quite pleasant with a hint of chocolate in the aftertaste. Thanks for the positive feedback, gentlemen.

MacBaren also suggests packing the tobacco a little more loosely than you might to reduce tongue bite/heat.
