EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title (See Rule 9)

I’m thinking about trying Mac Baren Vanilla Cream Cut and I was wondering how it compares to Captain Black Original?

Does it have heavy flavouring like Captain Black or is the flavouring more subtle? Does the pipe bowl it get it get overly wet after a smoke?

That is a blend i enjoy on a regular basis. It has a good smell of vanilla in the tin. A enjoyable smoke where the toping is present but you can still taste the tobacco. No goop in the bowl some moisture and deffinatly not heavy coated with glycol. It is one of my wifes favorites so much so that on a few occasions she has "packed" me a bowl so she could enjoy the smell while sitting next to me.

My favorite aromatic blend and beats the Captain Black blends by a mile. I smoke both the loose cut and the flake. Definitely a crowd pleaser and you won't get run out of the house while smoking it. It's a smooth smoke that retains its taste from first light to the bottom of the bowl. The topping is just right and it retains a tobacco taste thru out the bowl. Highly recommended for beginners and veteran smokers.

MacBaren Vanilla Cream Flake, by any name, is about as dependable a good smoke as you’re likely to find in the light aromatic genre. I haven’t tried the ready rubbed but I’m sure it’s just as good.

Like Ray said, tobacco flavor through the bowl. The vanilla is quite light, at least to my taste buds.

I like the flake better. Burns cooler for me and the flavor is better melded... But YMMV.

I thought the Mac Baren Vanilla was boring with little flavor. If I do smoke an aromatic on occasion it is either Cult Blood Red Moon or Sutliff Molto Dolce. Both have tons of flavors and I don't know anyone who has ever suggested they didn't have enough flavor.

Molto Dolce has no flavor at all beyond whatever chemical grease is all over those paper shreds.

Brobs, you might not like the flavor or the sizzling as you smoke it but to say it has no flavor is a mystery to me. I am not an aro smoker and I was amazed at how sweet and loaded with flavor it had. I also smoked Sutliff Vanilla Custard which some say is Molto in bulk and it also had a ton of flavor. I smoke the Molto when my mom comes by as she enjoys the room note. If it wasn't for her I doubt I would smoke it at all. I am not big on blends that sizzle. r

Did you happen to smoke a cigar or a Lakeland before you smoked the Molto.

Just in general the tobacco is so light that all I can taste is either the flavoring burning off or a humectant. I’m not sure which.

MacBaren vanillla cream was unsmokable for me past the first half of the bowl. I found it extremely plasticy, chemical, and unpleasant. I ended up blending it 1:1:1 with Wolfway burley and virginia and it came where I could smoke and like it. If that's a light aromatic what's a heavy one?

I wouldn’t call it light. It’s heavily flavored.

I wouldn't say it tastes chemically though IMO.

have you smoked other aromatics?

I'm probably not used to flavoured tobacco, my first ever steps were with some cherry Amphora but I was so green back then I could have smoked cardboard and all I'd have gotten would be the same no flavour and tongue bite.

Would G&H Bob's chocolate flake and Sweet rum twist count as flavoured? On one hand I'd say yes because there's clearly something added to the tobacco, on the other they are so far apart from what this MacB was that I'd say they don't. I got some Conniston cut plug and 1792 flake from the UK with a colleague but can't get to them due to the lockdown over here.
I'm currently smoking through WO Larsen Christmas edition that came as a gift with my Estervals order, but this was again too much for me to smoke neat, so I also blended it with the same Wolfway tobaccos to make it pleasant.

I'm going to open HU Jerry Saronno soon and write something about it, I'm not blasé towards flavoured tobacco, but the few I've tried so far have been too strong on the added flavour for me.

Totally understand. Was just trying to get a bearing on where you’re coming from. I’d call the two you mention very light on any added flavorings. You probably just don’t like heavily flavored tobaccos and Larsen is one. There are plenty of lightly flavored aros out there. Dark Strong Kentucky I would consider slightly aromatic.

Thank you, I checked out the reviews and I'm being put off by the mention of liquorice as it's a flavour I really dislike in food. Generally what I'm leaning towards nowadays is a strong tobacco with a hint of sweetness.
