I am a little disappointed with this blend. While out running deliveries for a friend of mine, I decided to pick up a pouch to try it. I found it to be quite absent of flavor. It tasted a little cigarettish when I lit the bowl and came back from time to time. I only smoked it half way because I didn't enojy it and the tobacco was WAY to wet from the pouch. I let it dry a bit this morning and we shall see how it is later on. I was smoking their Royal blend for most of the night so that might have had an effect on flavor. I figured with the gold name it would have had better flavor than regular or royal blend. I have tried the red blend and didn't like that one much either. I believe I am tiring of aro's or maybe just Mac Barens, who know's...

If you're referring to their 7 Seas Gold blend I actually enjoy that one. It has a nice honey, vanilla, butterscotch flavoring to it for me. It does come a bit more moist in the tin than in bulk so I'm sure a lot of people will want to give it some drying time. It could be the moisture or that you were smoking Royal all lastnight. Probably a good thing to give the tobacco some drying time, your palate a bit of a rest/cleansing and give it another go. Also, if you have another bowl and don't enjoy it you may want to let it sit for a week or two and come back to it then. I've done that with a few blends and found I enjoyed them more after they've been cracked open for a week or two.

Thanks for the tip LOTPR! Dried it out a bit more and gonna try it in a few mins. I'll see how it is. I did taste some honey and vanilla but it was no where near the Royal or Reg. I'll let ya'll know what I think. :puffpipe:

Meh.. Not bad, VERY light flavors. Taking very light sips and keep the pipe barely lit helps concentrate the flavors. The room not is sweet smelling. Maybe a couple wks in the jar will help it out a bit. Still smokeable and wont let it go to waste ofc lol.

I beleive gold is an aromatic correct? If so letting it sit a few weeks will make the flavor more mild. Aromatics at best don't age and at worse loose there flavor over time.

Also going by your name I'm assuming you like cavendish? Try this: http://pipesandcigars.com/blcapito.html its straight Green river black cavendish great for adding some flavor to any Aro, calming Perq and cooling down blends. Also great without mixing if you want a straight cavendish.

Thanks for the tips!

My name is cavendish b/c I couldn't think of a username at the time of creating it and that was the first thing that popped into my head when I thought about pipes lol. I do like smoking straight cavendish on occasion for a nice light change and give the mouth a little break.

I had a tin of Mac Baren's Gold about 18 months ago, and it never quite clicked with me. It had

good tobaccos in there, so I kept it in rotation, and I believe I finally finished off the tin, but

over the good tobacco flavor, there was an aromatic component that was distracting rather than

tasty (I never pinned down the flavor, maybe not-so-good caramel?) and a nagging harshness.

I never hurled it in the compost bucket, but I won't be back for more.

Gold and Royal are my favorites of the line. I dont care for the red black or regular too much.

Well, I'm having another bowl right now. It's drier and it burns a little better but the taste isn't there. This would be a nice mellow smoke for a new pipe smoker IMO.
