Can I sympathize. My wife got me a new office chair for my study, so I thought, oh boy, now the cats can sit in the old one, and I'll have a chair of my own. As they used to say in the Navy, dream on, sailor boy.

Now they each take a chair, and I fill in with something else. Sometimes I move them, but for unknowable reasons, I feel really badly about it, so usually I don't.

Today, for unknowable reasons, one is in the old chair, and the other is out of the room, so I'm the prince of my realm, for now. Remembering that house cats are genetically 99 percent tigers.

All those dogs look exceedingly comfortable. Tell me, exactly who has domesticated whom? Hmmm.

The only place my wife draws the line is the bed. I've been known to disregard that rule when she's out of town for an extended amount of time. ?
Sometimes I think the wife and I should sleep on the floor and let the cat and dog have the bed. Thankfully the dog usually gets too hot and jumps down and goes to his bed in the closet. Of course, the cat has no intention of moving.

Not sure whether I am glad or sad: my lab doesn't hop up on any furniture or bed. He does have a nice variety of sleeping pads about the house which he likes. He's also partial to certain Persian rugs.

Edit: Perhaps because he was rescued when he was a year old he's not had the puppy experience of being coddled on a couch.

maybe my cat is a rescue and it took a long time for him to realize he can go on the couch.

"Hiding" on the sofa, lol, and him literally trying to figure out what I'm thinking about him being in my chair. Often, he very intentionally curls up on my chair to force me to the sofa and lie down which causes him immediately to leap from the chair, dart across the room, jump on the sofa and sprawl all over me -- crafty little guy!
