I’ve got a Pete 313 that I really dig, but its stem barely snugs in the mortise and falls apart while smoking every now and again.
So far I’ve tried beeswax (temporary), heating the vulcanite until I can smell it and letting it cool on its own (doesn’t do anything), and soaking the mortise in warm water for a couple hours (actually got worse after it dried).
Anything I’m missing here?

Repeatedly Q-Tip-ify the inside of the mortise with some solvent alcohol until it's as clean as you can get it.

Let dry completely.

Get some THIN SuperGlue (it comes in several viscosities), put a couple drops on a Q-tip, spin it to achieve uniform distribution throughout the cotton, lightly touch it to a paper towel to wick away excess, and spiral it around the inside of the mortise to lightly coat the walls. Do not hesitate, and do not stop moving.

Let the mortise dry for a FULL 24 HOURS. Cyanoacrylate sets super-fast under pressure and/or in the presence of water, but when used as "paint" dries much more slowly... A 100% cure takes 24 hours. You absolutely do NOT want to glue the stem in place.

That oughta dooit. 👍
