I have a very thin walled pipe that has also happens to have an ultra craggy sandblast. She heats up quicker than a cast iron skillet thrown in a forge. I'm hoping some cake buildup will help a little, but I always try to avoid it. Is there a better cut/type of tobacco that will work best? Do I just not wipe the bowl out and keep on filling er up?

Thanks guys and gals

Yeah, wipe the bowl out and keep filling it up. For fast results, shag cut blends usually burn quickest, so those are a good choice. In that category, GH Dark Birds Eye is my go to blend. Very strong though, so your nicotine tolerance will either need to be pretty high already, or just commit and it'll be higher by the end. Five brothers is also a good choice, but the same caveats apply.

Like others said any blend that burns to white ash easily and a lot of it. Burleys usually fit that bill, Lat heavy blends on the dry side could work too. Really anything works just put the pipe through it's paces and build it up.

Why the concern with how hot it's getting? Thin walls will always be warmer than thicker ones and unless you're freight training it and ruining smokes, which I doubt, you should be fine. Just means you have to eagle's claw the stem, like you would a cigar, with that pipe.

Only issue I'd be concerned about is if it's a lacquered finish getting it too hot can cause the lacquer to bubble, but then again so can excessive cake and any heat so you're kind of damned either way and just have to be careful.
