Looking for Book: Brief History of Tobacco

So with the holidays now upon us I am looking for a potential gift for my dad. He is an avid reader and smoker and I thought this year I might find him a book covering a brief history of tobacco use or some whereabouts.
Does anyone have any experience with a title/author that they would care to share? It would be most appreciated.

The Book of Pipes and Tobacco by Carl Ehwa, Jr. is a dated, yet very interesting and informative book and can be had at Amazon.com both new and used.

"The Gentle Art of Smoking" by Alfred H. Dunhill might be appropriate. Its chapters include:

1. The History of Smoking

2. The Growing of Tobacco

3. The Preparation of Tobacco for Smoking

4. A Short History of Pipes

5. How Pipes are Made

6. Cigars

7. Snuff

8. The Production of Fire

9. The Practice of Smoking

Tobacco - A Cultural History of how an Exotic Plant Seduced Civilization by Iain Gately is a good read.

In addition to the already mentioned book by Dunhill you could try these:
1. All about Tobacco by Milton

2. The Health Benefits of Tobacco by Dougless

3. Tobacco Leaf by Killebrew ( a book from the 1880's)

4. Tobacco, it's History, Varieties, Cultures, Manufacture and Commerce, 1875 by Billings ( another old book)

5. Tobacco, It's History and Associations by Fairholt ( another old book)
Most of these can probably be had for pretty cheap from Abe Books. I think the book by Billings has been reprinted

I picked the book Pipes and Tobacco up on Amazon about 8 or 9 months ago. They had several at that time, if you watch a number of good books on the subject come through. Good luck.
