To start off, I'll give the basics. If you've never seen the show, it's based on the books written by a friend of mine Craig Johnson. It's about a small-town sheriff who lives in Wyoming.
The rant is this. The majority of reviews I have read mention something about "big sky". What kind of reporter is such an idiot that they can't do 2 minutes of research to find out that "big sky" refers to Montana. It's like saying that we went to Arkansas...the "Lone Star State". It might even be like referring to New Jersey with phrases like "Live Free or Die". While it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, it does show a marked lack of professional pride that these writers must have. We may not be the best known state but if you re doing a job at least bother to do basic research to keep yourself from looking stupid.
Sorry,

Sou

My son is a huge fan of his books, Irish on this forum is reading his books, I will read them later on, you are right about not being informed , they still refer to LA people as swamp people, sad, but then journalism is more about sensationalism than facts the old cajun

They aren't?

All kidding aside, I've watched Swamp People and never for a second thought that ALL Louisianans are so crazy to hunt alligators.
But captainsousie does have appoint that I've started to notice recently about the media. They have a tendency to get things; basic thing, wrong. For the life of me, I can't figure out why. Is it that hard to check something for two seconds?

Captain:
Cool post, but I hope you don't mind if I take my response in a different direction. As much as I appreciate your irritation getting mixed up with Montana, take some comfort knowing that you live in one of the most beautiful places God made and pray that people stay the hell away. I live in Kansas and have come to enjoy the snickers and "fly-over" snorts when I make that claim. Our Flint Hills pale against your Absaroka Range, but they always make me feel good when I see them and nighttime in our high prairie always soothes my soul.
I like this show very much and had no idea it was based on a series of books. For that matter, I had no idea the show's lead, Robert Taylor, is an Australian. (Why do Australians nail American accents better than any other nationality?) I saw a commercial several months ago on A&E about a .45 toting, county sheriff who doesn't like cell phones and went all in.
Tell your friend, Craig, that I'll be buying his books this week and that I hope this show continues. His "Longmire" is one of the most interesting characters I've seen on television in several years. Lou Diamond Phillips tears it up as Longmire's native American friend & guide, Bailey Chase's performance as a traitorous deputy is golden and I hope to hell your friend has some suck with the show's writers and they can bring back Katherine LaNasa. She played big time nasty in "Justified" but could prove to be the Balm of Gilead for Longmire's pain.
Cheers, Friend,
Fnord

Fnord,
Thanks for the response and it's always better to look at the positives. Even though I love to travel, it's always the best to come home to my state. I live right up against a majestic cliff face and love to sit in my lawn chair at night and have a pipe with the moonlight shining on the cliff face.
The wifey and I love to watch the show together on Sunday nights while we see how well they do at making it look like Wyoming. They usually get pretty close except for the adobe in some of the downtown shots which is more than I can say for a lot of shows in "Wyoming". Even though they don't really follow the books, they always seem to be well put together. The producers actually take Craig's suggestions and implement them whenever possible so I will pass on the suggestion about Katherine.
If you do get a chance to start the series, the first book is The Cold Dish and is well written and almost like a hard-boiled detective novel. The character Omar is based on the man that will be marrying my mother-in-law this spring and Sandy Sandberg is actually based on my wife's uncle.
I guess I'm just glad Craig's show turned out to be successful and that Wyoming is getting some positive airtime.
Oh yeah, Wyoming is a terribly, ugly place...everybody should stay away.

Hey Steg, here's a story, true, the old Cajun left his flat rice fields to visit his fishing buddy a retired brain surgeon (who was born in LA) used to kid him the reason he left La was there wasn't"t any brains to work on in La, but that's another story, wife didn"t want to go in my truck, wanted to use her van, when we got there I parked on a steep rolling hill, you wouldn't" call it a hill but where I"m from it was a hill. He lived on the side of a beautiful man made lake called Lay Lake, after my host expounded on how beautiful his place was, he asked me You wouldn't"t want to live here? I pointed to the van that was parked at a 45deg angle and said Hell No Stanley how you gonna check your oil,LOL Cajuns are practical people, the old Cajun, by the way I watch the series and love it
