I really like a cob and I like the filtered ones, but they only come with the shorter stems. I bought one from their cobbit series, a churchwarden, and put the stem on the lathe. Bored out the stem to take a filter.
Then I ordered some of the Forever Stems from Vermont Freehand that come with the tenon sized for the filtered MM, but not made to take a filter. Again, on the lathe, bored them for the filter.
Quick, easy, and pleased as a dog in the sunshine on a cool morning. Now it's fast and easy to fit any filtered MM with a longer stem or a different style.
Takes me all of four minutes a stem. :)

That's great! I absolutely hate how tight the draw is on the forever stems. They either need filters or be opened up more for me.

I ruined an acrylic stem with a drill bit once years ago....?

It really is shocking how virtually all pipe stems are designed as a chew-toy first and a smoking tool second, there is no reason whatsoever for pipes to almost universally ship with such a restrictive draft, except to try and appease people who constantly clench their pipes with iron jaws.

I have just ordered 2 forever stems ,I had read how open mm cobs draw was.
Now i am wondering if I should have just got Danish stems if i dont like the original ones.
At least danish are available in Europe although not as cheap as in US.
time will tell

I'm a wet smoker, and it accumulates in the forever stems very quickly. The danish stems are my favorite.

I use bent Danish stems on all my cobs they take most if not all 6mm filters

I know draw is subjective for each of us. Comparing to regular MM srem to the Danish MM to the Forever, the Forever is less open but only by a smigen.
If you wanted, it would be easy to drill them out before bending.
Though, I like the longer Forever stems enough to not worry about the draw once I bored them for a filter.

I dont use a filter so I will see how they feel once they arrive, and yes I can always open them if required.
One is a straight stem so relatively easy the other would need straightening then drilling and rebending.
not an impossible task for me to do

I'm not much of a filter user, but this sounds like a quick and painless fix for those who want a more permanent stem for their MM cobs with a filter. It sounds like you have the right tools for the job.`

you really hate what I call a proper draw on a pipe.

Right, you know something has gone very wrong when the entire pipe manufacturing industry is catering to the preferences of one man and there are precisely ZERO factory briars being produced with an open draft.
Wow. I think it's the preference of the buying public more then one man. Not sure why you think that, but open to hearing why. It's funny I feel like a lot of pipes are produced factory or otherwise with very wide drafts or at least with very open draw. Just glad it's rare to find one as open as an M.M. pipe. The m.m. pipes I can recommend them I can say they're quality and that I personally hate them and that the thing I hate about them is the draw is too open.
Please do tell me who the one man is who has his preference dominating the factory scene.
