Hi all.

I have lurked in these pages a hundred times from google searches when looking things up, so I finally registered here. I usually only post to a pipe group on Facebook, but they don't always have all the answers about provenance of old pipes.

Anyway, I first started smoking a pipe in 1997 when I was 18. First pipe was a Brebbia Avanti bent billiard which I still have. I only smoked on and off for a year or two, then stopped for about 20 years. I came back about 2.5 years ago. I'm now a middle aged college professor who teaches Shakespeare for a living, and it just seemed to make so much more sense for me to be smoking that pipe at my age now. It was like putting on an old glove, though. Now I smoke just about every day. It relaxes me like nothing else.

“A hundred thousand welcomes: I could weep, And I could laugh; I am light and heavy: Welcome.”

A Bard enthused welcome from moi, living here in Virginia!

Welcome! I feel like a hypocrite because although I admire Shakespeare very much I don't read him. In my defense I do read philosophy and theology that I hope has eschatological utility. I read a good bit of literature in my 20s and 30s, but the well has dried up. Then I read a good bit of psychology, but ditto the well.

Welcome.

Like you I lurked for a couple of years after I returned to pipe-smoking 3 years ago following a hiatus of over 30 years. I've learned more about pipes, tobacco and pipes smoking these past 3 years than in the 15 years
when I first took up a pipe.

You may have already gathered that this is a very welcoming and knowledgeable community. Please ask away if you have any queries.
