I know that Peterson adopted the Dunhill blends but where is the London Mixture? I found a tin of the Dunhill London Mixture in Charlotte a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. I was excited to order another tin from Peterson but I can’t find it. Did Peterson not continue the London Mixture? Even when I google it, it only shows the Standard Mixture medium. Is this the same blend with a different name? I’m so confused.

Very early in my pipe smoking phase (Not that it is very long) I smoked a tin of Dunhill London Mixture and liked it a lot. This was one of the first tobaccos which I bought more than one tin. I have about 4 tins still left in my cellar, and I think when I revisit them, I will like them as much as I did first time. When Dunhill was relaunched, I missed London Mixture and Durbar which they did not release. I am hoping they relaunch both.

I'm still waiting for Dark Flake. It was on the list but I've not seen it yet.
I am as well! I was relieved when I saw a Dark Flake as part of the Peterson re-release but have yet to find it. I’m not doing without as I cellared pretty deep. It will just be comforting to know Dark Flake is alive and well in pipe tobacco market again. I can start smoking the aged stuff from the cellar and replace one for one with the new stuff.

Sadly, Peterson has not reissued London Mixture. As you might be aware, Robert McConnell released a full set of Dunhill clones not long after Dunhill went away. They have a blend called Picadilly Circus that is supposed to be London Mixture. I have a tin but haven't tried it yet. However, I must say my expectations are pretty low after my experience the McConnell version of Royal Yacht and Ye Olde Signe, both of which were mediocre and only a pale imitation of Dunhill.

I had the same experience. Scottish flake is one of my top blends, so I had high hopes for the others.

Dunhill London Mixture is/was one of my favorites. I did cellar a bunch before the demise but, I smoke it sparingly. In a perfect world, it probably would come the closest to my “desert island” blend. I am in hopes that STG might return it to the fold. However, the fact that an occasional tin can still be found, demonstrates that it was not one of their best sellers. Westminster, while good in its own right, is not close enough to it (I now that was Greg’s attempt). I have tried several of the McConnell clones. All were fine tobaccos but, nothing comparable to their intended match. The Match London Mixture (Big Ben) is, also, a fine smoke, and may be the closest copy yet. Alas, it is still not the same or better. Bottom line is to find other blends that you do like and stock the hell out of any blend that you marginally love.

Several Pease blends appear to be inspired by Dunhill, and they're all really good blends but you have to take them at face value and enjoy them for what they are. The virginias Pease uses aren't very Dunhill-like and that's a notable difference.

I don't find GLP Westminster to be very close to the most recent version of Dunhill London Mixture. Westminster seems spicier. Still really really good, but stronger than the London Mixture I've had. Meridian is more in the ballpark of modern the London Mixture I remember.

In any case, I'd take the Pease blends over any of the McConnell clones
