Hi!
I am new here, joined just today. Still getting used to the interface and all.
I smoke pipe for some time now, but I never used tobacco (I always made my own blends consisting of raspberry leaves, chamomile, lavender, lemonbalm, mint, rose etc.), but now I want to try out some tobacco too (in a different pipe).
My question is, which kind of pipe tobacco is generally low in nicotine? I don't want to buy some extremely potent stuff for the first time and get all shakey and dizzy. I was thinking about Virginia, but someone recomended me Black Cavendish? I don't have any experience when it comes to the terms though. I found some oriental blends and they look nice, I sure do like some spicy stuff, but I don't know whether it is the best idea to get as a beginner... I read the beginner tips, but I couldn't find anything about the right kind of tobacco to start on. What do you think?
Excuse some spelling and/or grammar mistakes, English is not my native language.

Welcome from Virginia,
I’m sure someone will recommend the perfect blend for you but I’d possibly check out the Amphora pouch sampler if available to you. It has a little bit of everything in it and might give you a good idea what direction to go. It’s currently out of stock at Smoking Pipes unfortunately.

You can smoke anything you would like. Typically, OTC codger blend or mild Latakia is a good choice. OTC codger blend like Sir Walter Raleigh ot Carter Hall are mild and easy to smoke. But beginners might not pick up on taste. Mild Latakia like Early Morning Pipe is good since you will notice the Latakia right away and they usually don't burn as hot.

Welcome to the forums! This article might help: Nicotine And Pipe Tobacco Blending | Smokingpipes.com - https://www.smokingpipes.com/smokingpipesblog/single.cfm/post/nicotine-and-pipe-tobacco-blending

I usually don't have to worry about too much nicotine when smoking a classic English blend of Virginia, Orientals, and Latakia. When Perique or Burley are added, that will punch it up.
I also noticed that many people recomend to not smoke on an empty stomach. I will try to order some Latakia first.

I was able to find some shop in my country that sells 10g packs for a small price, to try out. I am just making sure I am buying the right things haha, thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Any cheap tobacco available anywhere on this earth labeled Black Cavendish is low in nicotine and sweet.

Another good, mild tobacco to start on is any old time American brand such as Prince Albert, Velvet, Half and Half, or Carter Hall. Those were and are made to be smoked all day, every day.

Avoid expensive brands to start. Some of those will beat up a novice.

Most online pipe tobacco retailers rate blends (or single leaf tobaccos) from mild to medium to strong, reflecting their nicotine content, and this is pretty dependable. Most blends rated one circle or star out of one to four or five are dependably mild. Granted, I have some nicotine resistance, but with some mild blends I can detect no nicotine at all. Most Cavendish based blends, or single-leaf Cavendish have little caffeine, though check their ratings in particular cases of course. If you refer to these ratings, you will find many blends or single leaf tobaccos with minimal nicotine.

I'm interested in your smoking other herbs. Indigenous people in North and South America historically smoked a wide variety of herbs, and knew what they were doing over some centuries. I assume you are working from traditional knowledge in selecting your non-tobacco herbs, but you do have be careful. Some plants are toxic to ingest and or burn, so be sure you have knowledge of that in selecting your non-nicotine herbs.

I used to smoke things like grocery bags and cereal boxes until they outlawed paper bags to save the trees. I did try the plastic bags, but they burned to fast to enjoy and they left goop in my pipe. — I did, for a time, try the cereal boxes, but I never was much of a fan for the aros. … then I discovered, tobacco. Never looked back.

Thanks! I already ordered some Black Cavendish blends already. And yes, some herbs are dangerous to smoke overall. I tried Wormwood, which contains toxic thujone, so that wasn't the best decision. I also tried smoking Blue Lotus, which just gave me instant nausea, just like Mugwort. And I also tried Passionflower, and that just made me a bit high. But usually raspberry leaves are very well tolerated by most people, however they taste and smell horrible, like a dirty chimney. Rose is very pleasant, but burns way too quickly. I considered smoking stuff like cinnamon, cloves and anise, but I decided against it.
