Sometimes I pack a bowl and don't have time to finish so i put it out and save it for later. When i woke up this morning i realized i forgot about my pipe that was only half smoked from the night before. Is this bad? I realize one time probably wont affect much, but just in case it becomes a bad habit i would like to know your thoughts on how this will affect my pipes thank you.

This is what is known as "DGT" - Delayed Gratification Technique. Sometimes that term is also used to mean loading a pipe and smoking it later, but I first heard it to refer to starting a bowl and finishing it later.
It won't harm your pipe in the slightest. Some smokers find that the remains of the bowl will smoke better, but that depends on the smoker and the blend, I think. :puffy:

Doesn't"t hurt a thing, in fact some times the smoke is better, a couple days ago wife wanted me to look at some crap she bought at T-J Maxx, now I was as interested in that as getting a bad cold, been married almost 50yrs so I know how to keep the peace. Came back the next day and it was a better smoke. :laughat:

I'm glad to hear all the reassurance because I do this all the time, both pausing overnight with a half-smoked bowl,

and packing a bowl and letting it sit over night before lighting up, because of distractions or just deciding not

to do the pipe at that time. Another version is mixing some tobaccos in a ceramic bowl, a pipeful or two, and

leaving some or all of it overnight, or even a day or two, while smoking something else. If tobacco is a bit moist,

this dries it out. If it's dry, it probably doesn't do it any good, but maybe not much harm either. I tried it, and

the smoking was always fine on the re-light, so I decided it works for me.

I didn't really think it would be a problem, but i though a pipe should be able to breath overnight to dry.

Leaving a bowl of tobacco out for a while (even overnight) is going to have far less impact on the pipe than on the tobacco. Aside from the inside of the bowl (which normally will have some cake/residue on it anyway), the whole rest of the pipe can "breathe" normally. The tobacco may dry out some (depending on local humidity), but in many cases this is not a bad thing.
I haven't had good luck the time or two that I've left a partial bowl for later - whichever blend it was got really bitter and unpleasant for the first few puffs, but about 1/2 of the way through the remainder, it evened out again. On the other hand, leaving a bowl packed overnight (due to sudden weather shifts, or a phone call interruption that takes up my whole smoke break time) hasn't seemed to make much difference at all - but I'm new enough that the subtleties may be lost on me. :D

I do this quite a bit. Especially if I'm hoofing it all day. Like when I'm in NYC for the day, I'll just pack four pies, cork 'em, and slide them into my portable leather four pipe case. Then I just need a Bic and my Dinguswhatsis and I'm good to go.

I have been known to smoke the same pipe and same tobacco over the span of 3 days.
Still great on day 3. :)

I do this all the time. I put one of those wind caps on the pipe and put it away after smoking. Then come back to it later. As long as it tastes OK smoke it.

It shouldn't hurt the pipe one bit, but how pleasurable the smoke is on the return visit to the pipe will depend on you and the tobacco.
Typically if I have a wet pipe tobacco like SPC Mississippi River I will pack my pipe and then let it sit out over night or for the day before smoking it. It definitely makes a difference.

I am a big fan of DGT and I also use the corks and DGT bowls of VA flake all day long. Love to slice flakes lengthwise and roll them up like a sleeping bag to the diameter of the pipe and stuff. Put a little dry fully rubbed on top, char and enjoy for 15 min and then let it sit over night. Next day it's like smoking a 99% cocoa Lindt bar.

I do this all the time and on purpose. I'll fill a pipe bowl at night to have first thing in the morning. Also adds additional time to any blend which needs to dry somewhat.

I'll char-light a new bowl of tobacco as the last thing I do before going to bed. Makes for a quick start in the morning.

I found most Vas and VaPers do well. Same for Stokkebye LBF, LTF. Burleys, not so much, but Haunted Bookshop works OK.
