Here is my latest effort to create a plug or more accurately a puck of VaPers. Made of chopped Virginia and Perique. Both are home grown. I sprayed the bowl with small amount of sugar syrup and a cap of Bushmill's whiskey. Compressed for 4 weeks.

Looks good to me! Try any yet?
I just finished a bowl. Very mellow smoke. Slices like Salty Dogs. I expected some harshness- there was none. No tongue bite and quite a N kick. It should mature nicely.

More info: The bright variety is Frog Eye Orinoco and the Perique is from Havana 42 leaves - fermented under pressure for 6 months. There is no getting around it- growing and curing is a long term project.

Do you find it makes a difference if you press for more than a few days? I pressed a few pucks previously and found that a very light misting is what made the difference in whether the puck stays put, or begins to expand and crumble after a few days.

My first puck was pressed for a week, and three days after releasing the pressure it began looking like these spring toys that my kids have, however the second which I misted with a bit of Calvados came out of the press firm, and has stayed firm for at least a month so far, although I pressed it for a single evening, not even 24 hours. Thinking about it logically, I don't expect manufacturers to be able to hold up machinery to press for so long.
