Last 9438 (?) - New Era Model

A New Era 9438 has so far eluded me, but thanks to Steve Fallon, a nice example of that grade was delivered today. As usual, I gave it my own touch and I'm pleased to add this one to my collection of 9438's. A short blog entry on how I finished the pipe can be seen here:

ssjones, You have great taste in pipe shapes and makers. This pipe is a wonderful addition to a very attractive collection of 9438s.

I did sell a City Deluxe 9438 back in 2013, were you the buyer snag? (I usually note that in my pipe log)

I also sold a 9438 Fantasy last year, I'm not sure why...

That bugged me Daniel! I'm using a new background and it is glossier, I think reflecting more light. Keeping a white background clean in my shop is a chore. This is a piece of restaurant advertising re-purposed.

On Saturday in NY, Jon Guss showed me a photo of a collector who had a table full of the Sasieni Moorgate shape (40+ pipes). I'm pretty sure I DON'T want to be that guy!

I guess I must "fess up". I'm pretty close to that with the 9438. I just think it's one of the finest pipes I've ever smoked. I almost never smoke anything else now. There are English style, French style, Meerschaum not to mention an abundance of sub-brand and private label stuff. You could have 25 or 30 of them and never have a duplicate

By the way, is that a "B" in your avatar? Takes me back to the mis-spent days of my youth.

That is a '79 MGB, my other money pit...er hobby.

I had three over the years, a roadster and two GTs. Fun cars. Bought the first one off the showroom floor for $2600 and change in '67. Honest!

The new interior and top cost more than that!(and I installed them)

But like a fine pipe, a classic is an investment but it's the top down, tooling around that's the reward.
