Just a beautiful old Larsen, the iconic Sven Knudsen 120 shape. Straight Grain 7! In the auction pictues I thought it was a 1. It's definitely a 7. I also looked at pictures of other Straight Grains from the period, definitely not a 1. From Larsen collector Rob Cooper,

"The first period, or the "Copenhagen Era" (Very early 1960's to the early 1970's) The pipes were stamped Larsen (over) Copenhagen... The "Straight Grain" pipes were typically stamped from F, then 1 to 6 in ascending grade order. There were no "Pearls" crafted at this time. The highest grades were stamped as high as an "8", but these were extremely rare. The stamping grades of from this era were much more stringent than in later times. The majority of the "Straight Grain" pipes from this era were finished in a light to medium natural stain. Most shank adornments were crafted from buffalo horn of a lighter color. These "Copenhagen" era pipes are considered by pipe collectors around the world as the most desirable, as these are prime examples of mid century modern Danish design that were crafted by the early masters of the pipe making art."

I'm blown away, this pipe is a BIG DEAL. It has also been barely smoked, in excellent condition, and came with the box and sock!

Rough cost at the time 900 D.kr.

This one, also a Super, needed a slight stem repair, so "it's at the shop". :)

Just started to work on SG7, treating the horn with a little bit of mineral oil.

We make it a practice not to as we have had lurkers snipe the auction. Beautiful grab Dave!

I didn't think about that.

Online bidding does leave something to be desired. I've not bid on a few Larsen's as they were already close to what I was willing to pay and there was still several days left. No sense in driving the price up for someone else.
