This freakin' ridiculous - In my county, Pinellas, in the city of Largo, which is next to me, city employees are banned from using any type of tobacco product when they are on the clock. They also wanted to make a new rule that they wouldn't hire smokers at all, but that part got taken out.
It is so obnoxious how they make up total B.S. and get so righteous about it.
Sinz pointed out that in 2010 the city faced 26 catastrophic insurance claims, a third of them were related to tobacco.
So they had 8.6 "catastrophic insurance claims" because of tobacco use? Really? What is the definition of "catastrophic insurance claims"? By the way, wtf is insurance for anyway?
The resolution defined punishable offenses as "smoking or carrying a lighted cigarette, cigar, cigarillo, pipe or other smoking material or use of chewing tobacco, snuff, herbal tobacco, and/or any smokeless tobacco products."
I would tell them to take this job and shove it.
There was at least one sane, rational person, but he was unfortunately outvoted.
"We are allowing the public to still come on the campus and smoke in a designated area," Murray said. “Then we are saying to the employees you can't smoke in that designated area but the public can ... I'm still not going to support this based on that."
Commissioner Curtis Holmes continued to speak out against the measure as he has at previous meetings. He called it too intrusive.
"My question is, is the next step here are we going to put up a height and weight chart now? ... Are we going to start running blood tests after that to make sure triglycerides and cholesterol are in order? ... People die from being too fat, they die from diabetes, heart disease ..."

my reply at the site:
How stupid. Unless tobacco use interferes with a worker performing his job or endangers the worker (smoking in a high oxygen environment) this should be let alone. The anti-tobacco zealots' harping on this is NOT appreciated by thinking people. The little Hitlers who try to remake the world in their own image will find such efforts will be rejected.

Pathetic really, and banning "and/or any smokeless tobacco products" means anyone attempting to quit smoking (usually a worthy endevour) is utterly buggered.

The bottom line is that all this specious science is paid for by the insurance cartels, who make no bones about not wanting to pay out. It's a pay-in system that rules by fear of the unknown possible future, and it's unfortunately what the modern mindset revolves around in "first world" society.

I've heard that city isn't alone in banning tobacco products amongst employees. Complete asinine.
Another company that doesn't allow tabacco products with their employees is Reynolds and Reynolds, based out of Dayton, OH. Another friend had sent me their information for possible employment, but they test for nicotine and the other stuff when they do their drug screening. Also, they do random drug tests and anyone who shows traces of nicotine are terminated.

And.........the freedoms of this country die, not with an agonizing scream but with thunderous applause from the cattle that it's inhabitants have turned into. Moo.....
