Hey fellows, my b&m has signed a new contract and they have Lane Limited on hand now. I have seen some blends with typical cigar names, such as La Gloria Cubana (which was one of my favorite every day smokes back in the States - so for sure I am going to give that a try), Cohiba, Partagas. Are they related in any way with the cigar manufacturers, or do they purchase tobacco from the famous cigar manufacturers? Other than the cigar name sake, are there any other blends worth exploring?

The b&m should have answers. Brand names don't mean much. A number of pipe tobacco blends without cigar names have cigar leaf, and some like them very much -- Key Largo and Billy Budd are examples. Your pipe and cigar shop proprietor should have answers to your questions on a cigar by cigar, blend by blend basis, and if he or she doesn't, they'd better ask their sources. Other than the monthly take, that's what they are there for. If you like cigar leaf, you can by it as a condiment leaf and add it to various blends as you choose. Some will mix better than others, of course.

Yeah theres no rhyme or reason to cigar brand pipe tobacco, most don't even contain cigar tobacco. I like punch and partagas cigars so the tins make nice decorations.. punch pipe tobacco is 75% latakia for that "latakia punch," which makes no sense being that the cigar blend takes it's name from a cantankerous puppet and not the fist kind and of course contains no latakia whatsoever.

I like lane very cherry for a cherry blend on the odd occasion I smoke an aro. And crown achievement is not a bad English specimen. Lastly there's good ole capt. Black, my first favorite way back before I knew about pipe tobacco outside the drug store...

Ask for the edge worth ready rubbed match. It comes in pouches and is very good. I also like medal of valor, lots of Latakia in that one

I really want to try the Lane Limited Ready Rubbed! Nothing else they make really appeals to me a whole lot. My Captain Black days are long gone.

Lane Andullo is one of my favorites. It has a cigar leaf that has been smoked as pipe tobacco in the Dominican. Unfortunately, it is a vanilla aromatic as Michael mentioned. Smokes amazingly well in a cob.

+1 on Lane Ready Rubbed. I bought a 1.5 ounce pouch earlier this week, and liked it enough that I just ordered a pound. It's a great straight forward OTC "codger burley" blend. If you like to smoke a bowl here and there only on occasion, it's probably not for you. However, if you are the type to smoke multiple bowls per day, and an easy "all day smoke" tobacco sounds appealing to you, this is a good one.
