Lady Pipes

Most of y'all know my wife enjoys pipe smoking too. Since she's not on the forum I thought I'd take a moment and show off her smoking cabinet, which is an old secretaries desk we found at an antique mall.



On the right rack she has a handful of Petersons and a Savinelli.


On the left rack she's got a couple Buckeye Pipes, a Scottie Piersel, a Boswell, and a few custom pipes.


As y'all can see, she's a big fan of colored stems. She smokes aromatics almost exclusively, mostly Cherry blends.


She's been smoking a pipe two years now. Every now and again, she'll even smoke one with me.

In my 45-some years of smoking a pipe, I've seen in person only 1 female pipe smoker and that was actually about 45 years ago too.

My wife has a few pipes. Her cellar's pushing 100 pounds now. J. Everett made her a Mrs. Santa pipe to go with my 2020 Santa commission.

I, too, have only seen 1 lady smoking a pipe. She worked in the tobacco store in the early 80's at the mall in Concord, CA and was a mature lady. She was quite helpful to a young smoker and his wife (me LOL!).

Looks like you've got an XL90 Burren there.

We've had a few female pipe smokers show up at our local pipe club, but not many.

Nice collection, neat and organized. I like colored stems, all black stems gets boring. My wife took a puff off of one of my pipes once...one and done.

What a great photo! Those are two genuinely happy campers!

Love the "secretary" - my mom's parents had one almost exactly like it, brings back memories. Part of my "cellar" is a carry on on wheels that is full of jars, lol (they fit in the little inside ridges). I'll just leave that to your imagination. Otherwise, jars on the floor of a closet and tins in a tub in the same basement closet (so it really kind of is a "cellar"), but I don't have anything on display.

I've only met two lady pipesmokers out in the wild.
Funny, you look at photos from years ago & you'll spot lots of women smoking clays. They reckon pipes were hugely popular with the ladies up until the First World War. Then, with the arrival of mass cigarette production the ladies dropped the pipes & got on the fags!

Can't help noticing though, you've got TWO of those leather pipe racks from Petersons & your missus has none. Sounds as if somebody has being buying pipes for the wife so he can pocket the leather racks for himself. Is this not the case? Ah Ha, busted!

My wife smoked a pipe with me since the early 1980s. She preferred English blends and loved her old Stanwell which she is smoking here. We had a lot of fun together experiencing different pipes and tobaccos.

Very cool. I too love the cabinet. My wife doesn't smoke a pipe, but she enjoys me smoking one and allows me to inside thankfully. It's great to be able to enjoy something like this with a partner.
