Hi everyone,

Stumbled upon this in a local estate.

No markings except for the model L23 on the RH shank.

Any thoughts to who the make might be?

I know Orlik used 'L' for their de Luxe range, but I have one of these and there is a lot of brand markings on it.

Im guessing its a mid century Britwood, but could be way off track.

Cheers

ive had some royal sovereigns before but again they were clearly marked from memory - maybe you are right though and it is a replacement stem.
Some manufacturers seconds aren’t marked at all intending for the tobacconist to mark it with their name. Often lots of them never got stamped.

Also the stem on this is probably original just a saddle bit vs tapered in the link

Yeah my other deluxe has the saddle bit too- was only only thinking replacement due to lack of mark. You are probs right about it being an unmarked Orlik, second or otherwise. Either way, I used my pipe money on a pre-republic Peterson 53 Lovat to do up.

British pipes from that time were almost always stamped as such, even 2nd lines. Impossible to truly know. "Who Made That PIpe?" doesn't list any pipe with an LXX stamp. One of millions of basket pipes?

dont know why I didn’t bother doing some more digging before posting as per normal:

judging on the location of the model mark on the shank I’d say this is what we are looking at. It was an internet listing, so maybe the seller couldn’t see the Orlik mark on the other side/it was worn.

im also thinking replacement stem, as there isn’t the copper O inlay.

either way I passed on it. Might grab it if I see her come up again for a lower price
