I need a good knock around pipe. I do have a cob , but i am looking for something a little more stable . I am not always happy with the way some of my blends smoke in a cob, because they smoke great in my briar. Does anyone have any suggestions ? I do not have a lot to spend , nor would i want to for a knock around pipe . I spend most of my time outside hiking or at work ( Construction). I need something that i do not have to worry about resting after 1 smoke.Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I was thinking that but cannot find them in my Area. I have looked at all the B&M's and at the local drug store. :(

Here
I bought a $10 Baraccini billiard on ebay.
It's the one pipe that I will smoke any mixture in, not rest properly and shove in a sack with my dirty socks.
I should call it Rodney, as it gets no respect...

"I tell ya, I get no respect.

I get a call from this girl, she says come on over nobody's home.

I get over there and there's nobody home. I tell ya, no respect"..
There's tons of great choices out there, as Ray47 has shown. Good luck!! You never know, sometimes the cheapest basket pipe can be your favorite!!

Yep, Chris Morgan Bones...I have the bent bulldog and love it. I rubbed olive oil into it to color it. Turned out real nice and smokes great.

Take a look at the PC offer on Stanwell unfinished pipes for $49.99. Right now, all of those in stock are billiards, but there is a nice array of those. Also look at unfinished Savinelli, or finished Big Ben, Genod, or BC. SP often has some good low cost estate pipes seeded in with the pricey ones that would fill the bill. Some of the new low end Nordings and Johs are wonderful pipes at low prices, though I wouldn't want the Nording Keystone system in particular (more stuff to buy).

My current knock around is actually a Nording Signature we've been on a LOT of adventures together. I also like my Kirstens for knockaround, and I have a no name black meer that I use in the shop and car all the time. I found some good estates that I use for shop pipes as well. I'm really looking hard at one of those Bones pipes for my next knock around purchase.

Another vote for Morgan Pipes Bones. I keep one for hunting, one for hiking, a couple that roll around in my car. They are the best bang for the buck, and patina with heavy use and abuse. They actually look better after you knock them around.

Get yourself a Falcon. Smokes great and it can take a beating.
If the beating puts it out of commission, you can always get a replacement bowl.

I've picked up a number of estate pipes off eBay ranging from $15 to $30. Usually a quick clean and they're ready to go. My favorite being a Dr. Grabow royal duke rhodesian that smokes great and I really like the look of. They all stay in my car and I never worry about tossing one in my pocket to take with me wherever I go. Cobs are also great but I usually just enjoy those on the river while fishing.

It depends on how rough your knocking around is. Most trekking around in a car isn't so demanding. Any pipe, even a pretty good one, can survive that duty. Obviously, you don't want to risk your higher priced beauties, but most moderately priced pipes can do the job. Speaking of knock around pipes, we had a member, not currently active on here I don't think, who worked in fire reclamation, restoring burnt-out buildings. It was dirty, dusty, grimy work, and for that purpose, he liked Brylon pipes. They're heavy and they burn hot, and they aren't pretty to most pipe smokers' eyes, but they are durable as shop hammers and can be hosed off to clean them up.

I have a couple of Forseti pipes (Walnut series). I think they're a P&C house brand. They smoke fine but they're not reliably in stock.
