My friend's wife has the "color" Nook and loves it but I also hear great things on Kindle as well. I guess also check out their networks for book buying and costs as well...

My kids gave me the 3G Kindle for Christmas and I love it!! I also have the cover with the built in light. Very easy to read even in direct light. I find the reflective screens on the Nook and iPad to be distracting for reading.
To me, any color eReader would only be a benefit if reading magazine's, etc.
Just depends on what you are going to read on them.....

While I too agree with Cyndi that the iPad is great (my son has one) it depends on what you want to to with it.... The iPad is overkill (and heavier) if you are just using it as an eReader.
But if you want to do more, the iPad cannot be beat!

No problems lordofthepiperings.........
with the Kindle you just need to log onto your Kindle acct at Amazon dot com. Your complete library is also kept there and can easily be downloaded to your Kindle again.......

All the books I have loaded are also backed up on my PC. They take very little room.
I have a Nook color, and it does just fine. You can access the web on it and such as that, but I don't really use it much for that at all.
Supposedly you can hack it to accept all the typical Android apps (it is Android based), but I use it to read books, and that is really all I care to use it for.

The books are held in an account history online. My Kobo account is linked to my Literati (the Sharper Image eReader), my iPad, Bootleg's iPad, my laptop, and my Android phone. It syncs my bookmarks too, so no matter what device I pick up, it always takes me right to where I left off.
My advice is to go to Best Buy and pick them up and hold them to see what works best for your hands, then order online for the best deal. I got the Literati at Kohl's on a sale and with a coupon and only paid $50 for it.

I have both the Kindle and the iPad 2 and they both have their ups and downs. The Kindle is great for reading outdoors and is definitely easier on the eyes, but the iPad has way more additional features and runs way smoother. I have about 20 or so books on each of them, but in all honesty, I only use the Kindle for traveling and my iPad for web-browsing/web-reading/music when I'm too lazy to haul out my MacBook Pro. For reading daily, though, nothing quite beats the feeling of an actual book in your hands and a pipe in your mouth :puffy: There's just something great about it that technology can't replace.

Don't bother with the nook Barns and Noble are getting ready to go bankrupt or be sold. Kindle is the way to go I have had one for a while and love it.only down side is that if you want to read a text book scanned PDF the text will be tiny but you can magnify it.But for reading the Kindle rules. I wont on I pad But my I am not a douche common since wont let me spent good money on something that will out of date in the next 2 years. for that kind of money i better get 5+ years out of it.

Have a Nook Color, great Ereader with limited internet capabilities. I put the kindle, Nook, and iBooks apps on my iPad though, and my iPhone too, and can access all my Nookbooks on any device with the app. I guess the books live in the cloud.

For the price, I think the kindle is a winner. It's light, easy on the eyes and holds tons of books

Got my Kindle for Father's Day and love it. The books download in seconds and I've found a lot of titles I want to read at $0.99/book. Can't beat that.

Guess I am WAY old fashioned. I have to have a real book to enjoy it.
Still have plenty of those.
Nice thing about an e-reader is that you can carry a multitude of books with you. having 100 books on an e-reader is nothing at all. Plus magazines, technical manuals, and so on.
If you travel any at all, it is real nice to have a half dozen of your current books, another half dozen magazines, a Bible (if so inclined), a dictionary, some other normal reference materials and most anything else you might need in something the size and shape of a small plastic cutting board for vegetables.
It doesn't take the place of a "real book" any more than a .38 snub nose and a folding blade takes the place of a 1911 Colt and an M-14. They all have their particular place in the life of a man of the world.

I got the wife a Nook Color and it is her new toy .Email ,Facebook , The Web and her books . She has downloaded over 30 free books already and with her reading habit it will not take long to offset the 320.00 price tag . That included the screen protector ,leather cover and the Nook . It is heavy well over a pound ,so it is also like a membership to Curves . As for me I build my own gameing rigs and anything under 4.0ghz and less than 8gigs of ram and top of line graphics bores me . I think Ereaders are great if you like to read as for me I like my tomes to be leather or canvas bound and my magazines on glossy paper .

So provided that the genius who hacked the PS3 network doesn't hack into your account everything should be ok. That's good to hear, because my only thinking was if the thing crashed you'd have to re-buy all those books all over again. Good to hear that's not the case.

Nah, don't have to re-buy your books. Just have to download them again to your device, which can take a while depending on how many books you have. I love the iPad, hate iTunes. But the good thing about iTunes is that it'll back up your purchased apps.
For myself, I'd much rather have a device that will do a multitude of things instead of a dedicated reader. Even with my first generation iPad, I know I can get several years of use out of it before it really is obsolete. (bought our ipads a few months before the ipad 2 was released.) I can do project management functions, engineering functions, web-surfing, and gaming on my iPad with the various apps. Only thing that would be better for any iPad would be a dedicated usb slot and flash support.
