Does anyone here have an Amazon Kindle?
A Kindle owner contacted me saying that he can't read the site on his Kindle.
Upon investigation I found out that I have to register the site with Amazon for publishing syndication on Kindle - fill out an application and have it approved. (Sometimes this is a problem with a site about tobacco.)
If it is accepted, I think they charge the user $0.99 or something and I get 25 cents. Woo hoo! So everybody go get a Kindle and start reading the site on it so I can get a free Happy Meal in two years. Kidding of course.
There's really no money in it, and that is not what it is about. It is just another way to distribute our content to another audience segment. It was requested by one Kindle reader, so we responded positively to his request.
I just submitted my application and if anyone here has a Kindle I would be interested in getting feedback on how our content looks on it.

Kevin,
From my limited experience with Kindle "Visa Ve" Amazon, It is a reading device charged by usage.

My thoughts on this matter is no to bother with it.
Bottom line is ,"It ain't worth your time and effort".
We all know full and well how to communicate: with our mates on this site .

Hey I have had a kindle since it first came out and have had every model of it since. It is great for reading, truly one of the greatest ebook readers ever, but not good for anything else... It works on my current model (Kindle 2, I am waiting on my Kindle 3) but it is not a pleasant experience, and that is true for all webpages on kindle...
This is what it looks like...

Ah ... interesting Bubba.
Thanks for the insight.
It looks like the Safari browser in that pic, but the guy that emailed me said he is using Chrome and Calibre, but he is also using the RSS Feed, which is what he is having trouble with.
He said:
When I click on that feed link, it is just a single mass of text with brief descriptions and link to articles with no line breaks or anything like that. What would be ideal for my situation is if the RSS feed contained the articles in full and my web browser and eReader software could recognize it (note: MY situation). Calibre is the program I am using to fetch RSS feeds and turn them into an eReader format, and it doesn't understand your RSS feed at all. It doesn't ven copy the mass of unbroken text. I'm no web developer or anything so I really have no clue what could be causing this, but with other RSS feeds, each article has a title and a body of text. Chrome and Calibre recognize these feeds as RSS and display them differently than just plain text like your site.

Okay I said "He has something other than a Kindle then. Kindle only uses one browser and it is the Kindle browser that is preinstalled on the Kindle", but after rereading what he said it seems to me the problem is with his choice of programs... Let me do a little research and I will get back to you!

Okay from what I can tell if he tries to RSS feed the home page it wont work. He has to use http://pipesmagazine.com/blog/category/put-that-in-your-pipe/ or any of the other categories from the homepage to make RSS feeds...
Of course this could be exactly what he is doing and it still wont work... I read that alot of people have problems using Calibre with the Kindle...

I just accessed this site on my Nook WiFi (Barnes & Noble eBook). The new Nook Color should be able to access this site faster and better than my model.

I have a Kindle app on my Ipad. It's useful in that I actually find myself reading more books traveling (books are heavy and a pain to pack on a "roll aboard". I just use my regular browser to view the boards.

I have a Nook, but it will be a cold day in hell before I use one as a regular 'net surfing tool.
