Hey all, in the theme of some of the posts that have popped up lately, (like PAD 2011 etc), why not make a thread dedicated to the Kaywoodie pipes of the forum! Kaywoodie's older pipes are beautiful, well-made, and show off American industry!
Here's one of my favorite Kaywoodies, which unfortunately needs some repair.

I don't have all my Kaywoodies photographed right now, but I'm going to do that after my Econ test tomorrow.

Collin, im glad to see you found yourself one of those chinrester stemed Kaywoodies. I have a couple Dr.Grabows but no Kaywoodies. I saw one up at the antique shop for 10 dollars..its an estate pipe, so naturally it needs some work. Perhaps that'll be in the PAD budget. Never smoked one though, but i've seen some older ones that were great looking pipes and im sure they smoked nice too.
Edit: Does the chinrester have the updraft? Look forward to seeing how it smokes!

Oh I smoked it, and it smoked quite well! It seemed to smoke fairly cool, and just had a lot of rax sex appeal. Unfortunately, in my quest to clean it up, I soaked the stem in bleach. Which oxidized the stinger. Which then broke, mid-smoke. And I still haven't been able to get it sent off to be repaired.

It saddens me, because it really is one of my favorite pipes. It's just so cool!
You should definitely get that Kaywoodie in the antique store. You won't be disappointed. Well, probably won't be disappointed. And if you are, well, I'd take it off your hands, for a price commensurate with the effort you put into cleaning the bugger. Plus shipping and all that, of course!

Since I don't have a Kaywoodie yet, I'll post a pic of one I'd like to get.

Reasonably priced, made in the U.S., not in China. What more can you ask for.

This is a Kaywoodie Connoisseur that was a recent gift. I've smoked it a few times already and I like it. Thanks Martin. :D :puffy:

They aren't filters, they're stingers! They're supposed to keep the pipe from gurgling, and to a small extent they help. Mostly they're nice because with them you can take the stem off of the shank/bowl during your smoke without worries.

Jsharp; not really. You can get one through the first curve, going either way, but then you're done.

I've only had a couple of bowls in my Kaywoodies, but I'm really liking the way they smoke. Hard to tell if its the stinger or the fact that they are older and broken in. I did take the cake down to the wood and have cleaned them very well so I'm thinking the stinger is what's making the difference. With the blend I'm smoking, a local house blend, I haven't seen any soggy dottle at the bottom of the pipe. An occasional "burp" but no gurgle.
All my Kaywoodies are straight stems and I've only smoked bents before. I like the straights much more. It's hard to explain why, they seem to "fit" me better.
Well, I'll continue to post as I get the Kaywoodies in shape and get to know them better.

Glad to see some Kaywoodie fans.

It is my favorite pipe.
I have some expensive pipes, and I do smoke them on occasion, however, I always go back to my Kaywoodie.
Twss...I try not to listen to others opinions too much, the reason is that they just seem to parrot each other without any real knowledge.
I smoke my kaywoodie all day, and all night and I only run a pipe cleaner through it at the end of the day, and after several bowls....I never get gurgle, (well hardly ever)....I find that if I just draw real easy, and slow there is no problem with the stinger.
I actually like that the parrots of the World bad mouth the Woodie, because that may just keep the cost down.

Collin:

I wonder if you can get one of the extra thin Falcon pipe cleaners through that stem?
I bet you just might be able to.....I've got an idea, send me the pipe, and I'll see if I can get one of these Falcon pipe cleaners through.

KAYWOODIES, yes.

The new Handmade Kaywoodies come sans fitment, are great smokes, and Exceptional values. And if you decide to collect/smoke the older pipes with the figments, the shapes and sizes are unlimited. Also, the history of the company and much old advertising is a lot of fun to research. Can you tell that I like the brand?
