I think there are methods used that will raise that tooth indentation. Check reborn pipes and other restorer's tips.

I haven't had to try it yet, but something about heating a knife?...I'm thinking table knife and laying flat at the point of contention...but, don't take my word for it.

A flame waved under the tooth indention will raise them at times. The Hot knife is more typically with a wet cloth to steam out dents in the briar. (although I switched to an iron set on high).
