We've had a few posts here on the handmade Kaywoodie Pipes of Year (Docwatson is a big fan) and this one particular pipe has tantalized me for two years I think. I visited Parklane Tobacconist in Albany two years ago and this one was in the case. I picked it up and really liked the craftsmanship. Ever since, I've watched two estates sell on Ebay for close to what this new pipe retailed (used @ $145 and one unsmoked with a broken tenon for $125!). I kept going back to Parklane expecting it to be gone, but nope it was still there. So, I took the plunge. The only thing that made me hold back was the weight, but I can always find room for one more large pipe.
This is my first Kaywoodie.

Beautiful blast, I also love the smooth segment by the stem and the wood band. Looks like a great find and an excellent smoker, congrats!

The majority of those POY's are heavier than a dead minister. That being said, the 4 or 5 that I have owned have been terrific pipes, provided you're not trying to do much else other than smoke. I think you'll like it, Al.

The weight (86 grams) put me off for two years. But holding it, the shape and bend will work for me. I'm odd in that I want small (50 gram) pipes for travel but I enjoy large pipes on the patio.
I was still in disbelief that two years later, that pipe is still avaiable, so I called Park Lane and verified, yep its the only one they had and will mail tomorrow.
I blame DocWatson and Lestrout, they whetted my appetite for a Kaywoodie POY...

Perfectly acceptable blame, Al. I blame Les for the lack of fish in the Beaverkill, and I blame Andy for the long line at Red's.

OK ,

I am the culprit that enables all Kaywoodie acquisitions. LOL

I am so glad that you FINALLY bought that beauty Al. It is more of an armchair pipe being on the heavier side, I know you like lightweight pipes but of you aren't happy with it, I'll take it off your hands for sure!!! Of all the Kaywoodie POY pipes, that shape IMO is the best of all.
@jpberg,

You are correct, Les just catches all the trout from those streams with a smile but always leaves a couple for the unfortunate few!!!

But as for Red's Eats in Wiscasset, I stay away from Route 1 all summer. No standing in line for this guy!!! But I will go across the street to Sarah's, the lobstah is just as sweet. :D

My wife let the Kaywoodie out of exile and I smoked it this afternoon for the first time, with some Princes Street mixture. What a pleasant smoke, with an excellent draw. It easily passes a fluffy cleaner, so I gave it a firm pack and had no surprises. The button is perfect by my standard. Overall, it's a bit smaller than my G grade Castello Sea Rock Bulldog and I definitely like the button profile better. That G (since sold) was just a little too oversized and I like the overall proportions of this pipe better. I swear it got a little darker after the first bowl, so I'll look forward to seeing how this one changes over the years. For a modest investment, the fit and finish compares favorably to my Castello's and I'm quite pleased.

Thanks for the followup Al - really glad to hear it. Nice to know that Kaywoodie can still bring home the bacon. :puffy:
