I can't do a review due to inexperience but will say a few words about it. I like it better than PA so far and I happen to really like PA. It seems to my tongue to be mostly like PA but with a smoother taste and creamier feel. Just may be my new go to for first cup of joe and break in smokes :)

Well see you were wrong, you can do a review, you just did. Your experiences aren't any less valid than someone else's. Thanks for the review

CH is one of the most enduring blends on the market. I have not smoked it in many years but it certainly has its fans. If you like it and it works for you then enjoy it.

This was the first tobacco I ever bought. Unfortunately, I havent smoked any since that first couple bowls. I am going to have to give it another try soon!

I have never had it but I hear people mention it often, that in itself shows lots must like it.

CH is a good blend. I find it to be just a little milder than PA but very similar in taste. Some folks like it better than PA, I enjoy them both.

Its a good blend for everyday, fishing, working in the shop, etc. I have also found it good for breaking in a new pipe, and getting rid of stubborn undesirable ghosting. I usually have a couple of tubs in the cellar.

I never tried the old codger blends, but I am quite fond of Edgeworth Ready Rub and Sterling's Double Eagle, both Burleys and quite good regular smokes. Both are primarily barleys, like PA, I believe. I have been wanting to try the PA, and Carter Hall as well, but am hesitant to pull the trigger on an entire tub. Just might after this review though. Thanks!

CH is *in my opinion* the best drug store blend out there. It's ready to smoke from the pouch (not goopy like Captain Black), it burns well (not rapidly like PA), nicotine content is good but not over-the-top (like 5 Bros)and the flavoring is appealing to the masses (unlike H&H).
It is also dirt cheap and doesn't go bad.
Um, I think I just talked myself into smoking a bowl of this. Cheers. Thbg

Rigmedic1...you can find 1.5oz pouches @ P&C. I just got a pouch of PA to try. Now I wish I would have got them both. :(

I prefer CH to PA.
I'm trying the OTC brands you can get over here. I love St Bruno, and I'm smoking Clan at the moment - inoffensive but a bowl seems to last just 15 minutes - and it can bite. Still, at least I've tried it.
Back to CH - it also makes nice roll-ups! I read somewhere that the "original" old pipe smokers often used to use pipe tobacco in roll-ups, so I tried it. Ditto PA.

If they ever quit making CH and PA I will have to give up my pipes! I like burleys and although there are others I like, none of them come close to CH and PA for me. Mac B. Golden Extra is one.

Hmmm, if the pouches are as good as the tub, I will have to try it then. I have read here thet PA in the pouch is not good as the tub, I guess I extended that sentiment to CH as well.

Interesting... I've been a piper for nearly 50 years. Smoked a lot of burleys in the 60s & 70s (other stuff too, just not at work, but that's another story), mostly SWR, PA, and Edgeworth, sometimes Half N Half. Found English/Balkans in the early 80s & never went back. Never tried CH until 4 months ago. For some reason the packaging always spoke "flavored, aromatic" to me, something I gave up very early. I have enjoyed My Own Blend off and on, so last November decided to revisit Burleys. I picked up some Bald Headed Teacher from 4Noggins, and happened to see an oblique comparison to CH. Decided to give it a try, despite the embedded emotional memory. Found it to be quite enjoyable, and at a considerable price point advantage to the craft blends. It now has a regular place in the pickup console, ready for a spontaneous trip to the range or the river. It's a comforting smoke, but doesn't carry the "je ne said quois" of the Latikia, Perique, & Orientals in the English blends. But it's good in it's own way.
