Nice looking score. I have a Neerup “Basic” freehandish style and it smokes great when I am able to have an extra long smoke. I’m a sucker for coloured acrylic stems too.
There is a pipe maker I noticed on SP.com called Askwith who makes cool coloured stems out of nylon. I was thinking about saving up for one of them or asking him to make me a commissioned pipe with something crazy. Curious about what a nylon stem is like. The colored stem was a big selling point for me too!
This is actually my first new pipe in about five years. Up until now I have been putting all my money into getting my cellar in order. The cellar is not complete, but it's pretty close.
Softer and more prone to teeth marks than vulcanite. Doesn't oxidize though.Curious about what a nylon stem is like.
How does it compare to acrylic?Softer and more prone to teeth marks than vulcanite. Doesn't oxidize though.
Acrylic is harder than both. The nylon is easier to damage than vulcanite. I tend to steer clear of acrylic unless I'm not buying a clencher. How does it compare to acrylic?
Hmm... I may rethink that then, one of the reasons I prefer acrylic is the fact that I can clench without any worry about putting chatter in the stem.Acrylic is harder than both. The nylon is easier to damage than vulcanite. I tend to steer clear of acrylic unless I'm not buying a clencher.
I've heard of it, but I don't know if I've ever seen it. Isn't that what the baccy flaps were made of?@coming to_falling too
Another option is bakelite. Available in many colors and falls between acrylic and vulcanite. I love that stuff.
Yeah those original baccyflaps are bakelite. I think its a type of proto-plastic. I've seen pipes with bakelite stems for sale on SP.com but they have all been quite expensive.I've heard of it, but I don't know if I've ever seen it. Isn't that what the baccy flaps were made of?
Many artisans use them on request.I like the coloured vulcanite stems you've posted above, but other than Dunhill Cumberland, I'm not sure I've seen those other colours anywhere before.
What's the top right? A cigarette holder?
Matching tamper. That is a Christmas pipe Bruce Weaver made for me in early 2016. Bakelite and ivory stem with a matching tamper with my initials on it's foot. Funny story goes with that one.?What's the top right? A cigarette holder?

Merry Christmas And Triple Dog Dare Met! :: Pipe Talk
Here it is, the Weaver Christmas Egg is unsmoked no more! Burning 2016 Christmas Cheer in it, and right at its first bowl its smoking like a champ! Perfect open draw, and thus far no gurgle. The Christmas Cheer is plenty sweet and grassy with a bit of spice in the background, and I can only...pipesmagazine.com
