This Brebbia Alpina cavalier was a combined effort reconditioning with my friend from Marvic Pipes USA, Gary Balestrieri and myself. When I received the pipe it was missing the end cap, and the original stem was oversized at the stem shank connection. I sent it off to Gary and he carved a ball cap, then he cut down the stem to match the circumference of the shank.
When I got it back I performed the finishing touches. I corrected the out of round chamber, gave it a smooth beveled rim with an orange and black contrast stain to add a little color. The rest of the stummel got fresh coat of black, then smoothed out the tooth chatter and put on a fresh shine.

Yes, Gary carved the cap from some scrap briar. If you look in the before photos, it's standing on it's own. This cavalier may have originally had a flat end cap, which would make it a sitter.
I very much prefer the look of a rounded end cap on cavaliers. I just don't like the look of one with a flat cap. I'll see if I can find the pics of the cap carving. He emailed a few pics to me while he was making it.
SS, your GBD cavalier was actually the inspiration for the concept on this rebuild. Did it look vaguely familiar when you seen the pictures?
