I've dealt with tabacconist in several different parts of the US due to my moves related to my job over the last 25 years. I just wanted to say how much I really appreciate Matthew J. Hayes at JBH in Winchester, VA. He's the son of the original JBH and has been in the business since the day he was born. Matthew has been more than fair on many occasion with me and my deals, swaps, and trading. He has a nice small sized shop and concentrates on helping the local guys find their brands of pipes and smoking tobacco. I appreciate his extremely helpful manner and his incredible pipe tobacco nose. He can really assist you with determining brands, tastes and types of pipe tobacco. Really nice guy.
Just wanted to share my opinion. Does anyone else have a comment?

Thanks for the recommendation. I see the shop every as I drive by it several times a year motoring to Va Beach to visit family. Each time I think that I should stop in but give in to the urge to "make time" on the road, and pass it by. Silly sentiment for a pipe smoker. I'll stop next time.

I love both the JB Hayes shops. I get into the Fair Oaks (Johns shop) a little more often than Winchester.

But, Winchester and Matt have the most estates, so it's worth a stop. Tin and jar selection is also always very strong.
In fact, I threw out a forum meet & greet at the Winchester store on 12/28, thread is at:

Hey, ssjones! I agree wholeheartedly with your estate comment. I have bought two - count 'em - two, 1969 Dunhill sized 4 pipes from Matthew. Good deals on both and like I said, he's a fair trader. He has an Italian volcano estate that I nearly dropped dead for in stock. last week while going through the inventory. Don't remember the make, but the flame on that baby in INCREDIBLE! (Yes I used caps.) Chenck him out. P.S. - I have no financial interest in this business, unless he's not paying attention...

I just found my 15 yr old john b hayes zipo pipe lighter. I bought my first pipe from him. An unfinished knockout that turned a wonderful color of a purplish brown. They were great od course. I also have to give credit ro my local Emerson cigar and pipe who polished my refound lighter with rhe john b hayes logo when all I wanted was some flint.
