Our featured interview on tonight's Pipes Magazine Radio Show is with Jody Davis. Jody is a renowned pipe artisan, and the lead guitar player for the Grammy-nominated Christian rock band, The Newsboys. His pipes are extremely high quality with Danish style designs, and they are not easy to come by. Jody will take on two “Ask the Pipemaker” questions from listeners as well as chat a bit with Brian. At the top of the show in our Pipe Parts segment, we will have a Pipe Smoker Gift Giving Guide for Father’s Day this weekend.

Sounds like for Jody it’s a combo of the mystery of what’s inside the block and the challenge of can I bring that to life that keeps him passionate about pipe carving. Seeing his work pop up from time to time on SmokingPipes, I’m glad he’s kept up the passion, because he makes some truly incredible pieces. It would be great to see him at the Las Vegas show.

I remember seeing the Newsboys a couple of times in concert back in the day, so I had to do a little research to see what other music they have made over the years. Really enjoyed hearing about Jody's pipe making, and that led me down another rabbit trail on the Internet. Tired now, need to go smoke a pipe and relax. Happy Father's Day to all the dads and those who act like them!

It's fun to hear from Jody as I've long admired his classic shapes. After checking his site out I realized that if I plan ahead and save I could make the dream of owning one a reality.

I've also been listening to past episodes and right now I'm in a stretch where you're reading out various people's Fast Five answers and it got me thinking about another pipe parts with listener participation. You take two things from the hobby and have people write in to say which one they prefer and why. Here's one you can start off with: Which tan do you prefer, Jay Furman or Dave Peterson? My vote goes to Dave for evenness of tone and the sheer size of the bed that it takes to contain him.
