I’m curious to know if there’s a particular collective opinion on these two freehand pipe makers.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell them apart on my shelf or in a store. But in the end I’m a Ben Wade fan. I don’t think I could say why - aesthetics? Smokability? Maybe I’m missing something on Jobey?

You're referring to Jobey's Dansk line, those were made by Karl Erik. He used automated machines to pre shape his pipes with the final carving done by hand. The Danish era Ben Wade's were done mostly by hand by a number of carvers working in Preben Holm's workshop.
