Jim's Lane Vanilla Black Cavendish Review.

The black cavendish offers some brown sugar, and seems to have a little toasty quality to it. The deeply rich vanilla also seems to have a touch of caramel. The nic-hit is very light. The strength level is a hair past mild, while the taste is closer to mild than it is to medium. No chance of bite or harshness, and has no dull moments. The tobacco is quite moist, and may need some dry time, though I saw no need to do so. Burns cool, clean, and a little slow with a moderately creamy sweet, consistent flavor from start to finish. Leaves a little moisture in the bowl, but no goop. Requires some relights, and the number depends on whether or not you give it any dry time. Has a pleasant after taste and room not. An easy going all day smoke that would make a good mixer, too. Four stars out of four.

Jim, thanks for the review. Weird that it is one of the few Vanilla Cavs I haven't tried. Most have bombed out. If I don't go with Lane's 1-Q or toasted black cav, I'll hit this next.

Weezell: I don't give out many four star ratings, but I felt this is a very good contemplative blend. The toastiness of the tobacco pushed it to four in my mind.

Jim, this is an unusual descriptor of a tobacco blend (to me at least). Just so as I can understand it fully might you name a blend that is the polar opposite, as in a 'non-contemplative' blend? Failing that, perhaps you might define which particular attributes a blend must have to be considered a contemplative blend?

Some mixtures you can smoke no matter what you do, e.g. Smoker's Pride Mellow or their Rich Taste blends. Others seem to do better when you're just relaxing and enjoying the moments you smoke.

Jim discovers and rediscovers blends many of us would be reluctant to review, and this is a great example. Someone recently asked for a recommendation on a vanilla aromatic, and here it is. This is a great recommendation for members who'd like an aromatic in the rotation that is an easy smoke. As always, Jim, thanks for new insights.

Cheers for clearing that up Jim. I think I get your drift, I (for some obscure reason) tend to smoke my stronger blends whilst reading and my medium blends the rest of the time. Then again I will break out my rarer blends when I wish to do nothing but just 'switch off' and smoke.
Never really thought about it before today.

Rats - another blend I'll add to my list of want-to-tries given my enjoyment of aromatic blends.

Personally I find wines and pipe tobaccos to be analogous. Some wines you just want to have an enjoyable drink while others are meant to get lost in the complexities. Some pipe tobaccos you want to focus on the nuances and uniqueness of the blend while at other times you simply just want a good smoke.

Sounds like an excellent hedge against new regs and rising prices. Cavendish is an often overlooked pleasure. It's a process, not a leaf, but usually gives a nice voluminous smoke and dependable flavor, and mixes well, "plays well with others.'

I mix VBC (or BCA) with Carter Hall....roughly 20/80, and I get something that I think Captain Black Original was trying to be....a nice vanilla flavor that doesn't lose its tobacco taste....something that I just never was able to find in CBW.
Although, I can't really recommend mixing CH and CWB to salvage the CWB. That was just so-so, where the CH/VBC mix was very pleasant.

After reading Jim's review, I ordered a pound from P&C a couple of months ago when it was back-ordered. I noticed it is back in stock on the P&C website, but my order has not shipped. Have an inquiry in with P&C, but was wondering if any one else was still experiencing a delay?

If you used paypal to pay, after 30days of not being fulfilled paypal does not pay. That happened to me and got an email from P&C to call them and make other arrangements to pay. I said the heck with it I didn't want it that bad...(no slam on P&C, that's just how PP works)
