The various Virginias offer a range of deeply bold varietal aspects: a lot of earth, a small amount of grass, fermented dark fruit and a light citrus, along with a very minor spice note. The toppings do tone down the tobaccos a little, but mostly work in concert to create a homogeneous, very consistent floral, earthy flavor from start to finish. I notice the almond, rose geranium, heliotrope and rose fragrances more than the vanilla, coffee, whisky, rum and musk. Has just a little of the “soap” and “perfume” usually associated with a Lakeland blend. You have to spend dedicated time to obverse the less noticeable toppings. The nic-hit, strength and taste levels are medium. There’s no chance of bite or harshness even if puffed fast, which I don’t recommend. This should be smoked slowly to capture all that it has to offer. The flake is easily manipulated to suit your packing preference. Burns a little slow, very cool and clean, and can burns to ash with little difficulty. Requires a few relights, and leaves just a little moisture in the bowl. Has a very pleasant after taste, and a very floral room note. Both will linger a little. Will ghost a briar fairly quickly, though it’s not as strong as G&H Grasmere. Not an all day smoke, but it’s certainly repeatable.

I liked this stuff alot when I tried it, I noticed the citrus, spice and grass but was surprised to learn it had rose and the other toppings. I did smoke it in a cob that wasn't yet broken in so I got that cob taste too, but overall I found it to be a very pleasent smoke. I did have a couple bowls in a briar, and the tobacco seemed alot stronger in the briar but still was mainly citrus to me. It didn't ghost the pipe from a couple bowls, but I'm sure after many it would, but I find anything ghosts a pipe, I had kaywoodie I only smoked st. james woods in and I had to salt and alcohol it after reaming it because all I could taste in anything I smoked in it was perique. So I wouldn't be scared of this ghosting a pipe in a manner where you'd have to throw it away if you didn't agree with it. It's one of the lakelands I've wanted to get more of definitely.

Andy: once that Lakeland gets in a briar, it's hard to get it out. I never smoke Lakelands in briars for that reason. It's intense in a meer, but just right in a cob.
Weezell: thank you.

I'm working my way through an ounce, and Jim's review is spot on from my perspective: I get rose geranium first, almond second, and consistency throughout the bowl.

Been smoking Kendall Chocolate Flake in a meer because I like smoking it before bed (or else it taints my tastebuds for anything else) and I can smoke the meer every day. I haven't noticed any ghosting. Then again the Lakeland essence is really super mild, probably only someone who truly detests it like I do would even detect it.

Shutterbug: I haven't tried that Kendall Chocolate Flake, so I can't comment on it. Sounds good though.
Coyote and Yaddy: I thank you for the kind words.

That's odd, then someone impersonated you in THIS REVIEW which actually encouraged me to give it a try. It's very good actually. I rub it out and pack it loose, still a little hard to get and keep lit but I'd rather have that struggle than dry it and lose any of the very light chocolate topping, which helps to subdue the lakeland essence.

Shutterbug: My error. Since we were on the subject of G&H blends, I was thinking you were referring to something in that line up and not Sam Gawith. It gets confusing with their similar names at times. Glad my review was of help to you.
