About 25 years ago, I got to meet Carter. He volunteered for an auction for the museum. People bid on a private coach train ride with him from Birmingham to Plains, Georgia. He was the most humble but jovial guy. Very approachable. He was really old back then. I can’t believe he made it 25 more years after that. A great exemplar of a Southern Christian gentleman.

Carter spent much his post Presidency doing things for others, like his involvement with Habitat For Humanity. He may not have been our greatest President, he certainly had his flaws, but he did a lot of good and he has my respect for that.

The country's political DNA has devolved a lot since then.

That is basically how I view President Carter. He wasn't very effective while in office but he did a lot of good for the world after he left office. I don't think he would fit into the Democratic party of today though.
