I've been smoking pipes for several months now and have really only enjoyed VAs and AROs. Well, something is afoot with my palette. It started when I opened my first tin of Frogmorton. I opened the tin and loaded a pipe with the fresh/moist tobacco and lit it up. I didn't care for it, set the pipe down and moved on. Later that evening I went to the garage and relite my pipe.... NICE! What a great smoke. Now, for the last week I find myself almost craving Lat/Eng or Ori/Eng tobaccos. Drying them out really does a wonder for the flavor. Anyone else have a delayed response to some tobacco blends? Looking forward to see what my palette says next.

The Frogs are what is called a "cross-over" English - it's got a topping. May be part of the reason they are so moist.

If it doesn't have latakia, it's an Oriental blend, not an English. :puffy:

@mikephillips don't apologize sir it was an entertaining read while I drank my Sunday coffee! I had the same reaction to Latakia after smoking crappy aro's. I had to go into the city on business one day so I thought I would stop by the Royal York Hotel and see what the Julies Vesz fuss was all about. While I was there he convinced me to buy this foul smelling tobacco and give it a try. I happened to have a small bowled prince shaped kaywoodie checkmate with me so I fired it up. I have to tell you I have never had such a visceral reaction to a pipe tobacco as that one. It was heavy latakia and it was called L12 thus the handle piperl12 I have found better since but never enjoyed Latakia as much as that first time. Now going on 20 years later an English convert.
