Hello, so a while back i was smoking with the stem or straw part of my pipe upwards as in i can see the bowl in front of my face and the bit facing the roof of my mouth to help lessen the tongue bite and i kept doing it and now i just do it like that, i think it looks ridiculous but it's more comfortable.

You may want to take a look at the Peterson P-Lip pipes because I believe that design is based on the same theory.

If what you're doing is comfortable, just do that. It sounds awkward, but who's watching? Otherwise, the Peterson P-lip may definitely be worth a try, though you might have to jump some hoops to get one, it seems. Depending on how determined you are, and how much of a problem this is, you could stop up the hole in the bit and drill a hole on the top of the bit just in front of the "button." That could give the same effect, though you'd have to put the stem a little further into your mouth, but this seems true with the P-lip too, at least to me. I'd opt for the P-lip if possible.

Let me elaborate a little on my suggestion about drilling a hole in the top of the stem of your pipe. This is definitely second choice to getting a P-lip pipe, a sort of stop gap. Two ideas occur to me if you decide to try it. First, if you can get an inexpensive pipe to try this, that might let you know if it is worth doing to your first-line pipe. Secondly, before sealing off the hole at the end of the bit, you might want to try it with both holes open, to see if the smoke would disperse both places enough to solve your problem. This is conceivable, depending on the stem and pipe. You'd want the top hole immediately touching the button. I don't really love this fix, but it is an approach, if the P-lip is not available and your current unusual positioning of the pipe is an annoyance to you. Best wishes.

If you are concerned about looking ridiculous, you will have to come to accept that. Most of us do. I think anything to avoid tounge bit is acceptable, see stingers, filters and other system pipes.
