Hi, I was just browsing ebay and found this old Ben Wade and was shocked when I saw the photo of the other side of the bowl. Has anyone ever seen so much filling on one side of a pipe?

I almost want to bid for it as this,in my opinion, is a rarity.

"Antique-ing"??? When my BIL, the cabinet maker, does it to a piece of ordinary furniture, it's called "distressing"... and he gets triple the money back. But he's a good distresser!

Yikes! I've seen some fills before, but never so many, so blatantly displayed.

Hey if you can grab it for the right price it might be a great smoker. I have an argyle france I believe is a Dunhill second, it has a few fills but it's one of my best smokers.

So gorgeous from some angles, so mangled from one. Might it be repair fills to a treasured smoker? I can't imagine it leaving any factory in that condition.
Hope you get it and enjoy it!

Same-same seller has this bare knuckle bruiser up for auction:

Dang, even with the dings and fills, I'd smoke this one in a heartbeat.

I'm very accepting of fills, and have posited that fills add personality to a pipe. Well, that's too many fills for me. It could be an interesting oddity, and it might smoke really well, for a buyer with a wry sense of humor, if the price stays low. If I were the pipe maker, I wouldn't want that one out with my stamp on it.

I had a book that described how to do it: First, you put the whole dresser in the pond for the Winter.... Included bird shot from a 12 gauge, and numerous other steps to distress it but good, including beating with tire chains, IIRC.
