Hi everyone,
I have an unsmoked Barling with the old logo "Barling's make", squared characters, but numbered "3199" right below instead of "Ye olde wood"; the stem also has italic logo on above and cross logo below. So could anyone help me dating this pipe please? Thank you.

It's a family, i.e. Barling family, and are CA 1962 which is still the Barling family era but getting toward pre-transition, there is not much more to go on since that was sort of a limbo point and nothing changed even during the early transition, the same wood, workers etc. made the pipes, its when you get toward the post transition era things changed, you have a nice Barling.

Exactly what Banjo said, 1962. For more information on this see here,

Start reading at The 1962 150th Anniversary and Retailers’ Catalogs
One often finds the Barling Design mark on the underside of the stem of these pipes.

@kangaroo the stem also has italic logo on above and cross logo below

It sounds like you have your stem upside down the crossed Barlings should be on top and the barlings script under neath probably reads Barlings Design as stated by Dave

I agree 1962 date

Thank you everyone,
I have an additional question that how much an unsmoked-Barling made in 1962 should be? I got this one for $320. Just curious :)

What a terrific find! This pipe was made between Spring and Fall of 1962, at a time when Barling introduced a new model numbering system. By November of 1962, B. Barling & Sons changed the logo to the script "Barling" logo. At the time that these pipes were made, the company was still run by the Barling family, though they had sold it to their biggest client, Finlay, at the end of 1960.
The only difference between this pipe and one that is recognized as a "Pre-Transition" or "Family Era" pipe is the model number. The wood, the manufacturing process, the carvers, are all the same. I've seen several of these that had both the old and new model numbers stamped on them, probably because they were in the pipeline when the new model stamps got distributed.
By November of 1962, the logo was changed from a block "Barling's" arched over "Make" to a script "Barling", and the Barling family was no longer involved with the business.
As for a market value on an unsmoked pipe from this period, I can't really offer an opinion. An unsmoked Barling is a very rare commodity.
