I found this in a lot of Class Pipes I am restoring/prepping for a very good friend of mine. I used all the tools of the trade in an effort to identify it; Who Made That Pipe?, Pipephil, Pipedia, Google... I got nothing. It looks like a Comy's Apple to my eyes. The number (78) on the pipe, right side of shank corresponds to a Comoy's Apple, but the one with an Army Mount. Left side of shank is stamped, "Old Root". The topside of the stem is stamped "AO". Underside of stem at shank is stamped "FRANCE".
