Hello there,

I just purchased my first "real" pipe (beyond those $30 starter ones). I have heard some quality control stories about Peterson and have a question about a particular spot on the pipe. I was hoping you more experienced smokers could help me.

The attached photo of the bowl below shows what seems to be a long cut along the bottom. This is not something I have seen on other pipes, and to the untrained eye I'm unsure if this is normal. What are your thoughts?

That looks like a drill skid mark. Happens a lot, especially in factory made pipes. Not really a defect and won't affect smoking. I agree with a previous poster about the Peterson bowl coating. I always wash it out. However, as you are new you should probably just smoke the pipe as is and not worry about it. Good luck.
