Is it even possible to push the pipe bowl too far into the stem ?

I presume you're talking about your army mount that got dropped. An army mount is tapered and you don't want to force it in, just tight enough to hold.
Regular push bits are straight and can only go as far as the tenon will allow. You don't want to force those either, as they can snap off. Always twist them in and out, rather than pushing/pulling. You can put some beeswax on the tenon of a push bit to make it easier to remove.
