I just opened a tin that I received from P&C.com this week. I got several different tins with the order and was taking them out and placing into mason jars. The Dan Blue Note has to be dryer than any tobacco I've ever seen. Its just hard shards in the tin. Ive never tried Blue Note before so im wondering if this is normal. Should I try a and re hydrate this baccy or just leave it?
here is a shot of my order, I'm enjoying everything ive tried so far. I really like the Frog Morton.
Cheers,

In my experience the Dan version is usually pretty dry. But no drier than any other luxury tobacco.
Did you get the popping/sucking sound when you opened the tin? If not it may have been already opened. If you are not happy contact P&C and I am sure they will make it right.

Eagle, I really don't recall any sound that would have indicated an airtight seal. I was actually wondering if it may have been previously opened. I may contact them if its not normal for it to be this dry.
I did get the Ashtray with my order. $10 seemed like a heck of a deal. I'm really enjoying it.

That is a nice selection of tobacco.

I recently bought a tin of Dan's Bluenote. It was as dry as a desert. There is a thread about re-hydrating tobacco.

http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/re-hydration#post-307148

I tried the steaming method and it barely made a dent. I was a little concerned because some had mentioned that re-hydrating would kill the flavor.

I went ahead and smoked a bowl (slowly). To my surprise it didn't whopsh into ash the moment I put a match to it 8O

Pretty nice smoke as a matter of fact!

I've found most of the tobacco's I've tried from Dan Tobacco to come drier than most straight from the tin including Blue Note. That being said, yours may be drier than usual. Is the tobacco crispy dry. Does is break into pieces when you pinch it? If it does then that's not normal. If it's still springy and doesn't crumble when you pinch it then it's probably okay. If that's the case, try smoking it as is first before hydrating. I only recommend drying or rehydrating tobacco if you are experiencing problems with it. Otherwise, let it be and smoke it.

Wayne it is crispy dry and not springy at all. if i rub it in my fingers it breaks apart. it sounded like sand paper dropping into the mason jar.

Yea, I would contact P&C to get that tin exchanged rather than rehydrating it. Dan blends are dry but not like that.
