Condor! You'll have to get it while you're there. Erinmore is a STG Reissue of an Irish brand. Not sure if the current STG Murray's line recreates any other original Irish blends.
Condor is a popular old Irish brand. Hard to get outside of Ireland. Now made in Poland. Murray's used to be a big Irish manufacturer that produced Dunhill blends for a time, as well as their own blends, but they closed long ago and the brand name is now owned by Scandinavian Tobacco Group. STG brought back Erinmore, another classic Irish blend, then revived the Murray's brand but the current blends weren't historically in the Murray's lineup. I don't know if they are old Murray's recipes or new ones made by STG and marketed as "sister" blends to Dunhill/Peterson which they also own. Peterson's original blends, not the Dunhill reissues, were originally produced in Ireland as far as I know. All of these would still be considered "Irish Tobaccos" even if they aren't currently made in Ireland.Okay I didn’t understand a word of that. ?
A fellow Alabamian... are you within range of The Briary in Homewood?
Ah, I see that the Mick McQuaid plug has been discontinued but the ready rubbed is still available.
This is one that is hard to find outside of Ireland so might be one to seek out on your trip. If you find yourself in Galway you might give the Powell's Music Shop a try. They carry pipes and tobacco as well as musical instruments.
*Sorry, info was a little off. Standard Tobacco of Pennsylvania revived the Murray's brand, but it's produced by STG/Lane.
Ask for me, Cosmic. If I am there, I am the one laughing boisterously and slapping my knee.Next time I’m passing through I’ll drop by. ?
No, I'm an American living in Germany for now (met my German wife in Africa). I'm of Irish descent, most recently on my mother's side, and have some family there in Ireland.Galway is one the tentative plan! Thanks for the tip. Are you from Ireland?

This is great advice. I was in Galway two summers ago and visited Powell's where I picked up 3 pouches each of Mick McQuaid and Velvan plug. Generally Peterson dominates the tobacco market in Ireland so you'll be able to find most of their blends but they'll charge you upwards of 25 euro for a 50 gm tin. Most newsagents will carry Condor and on occasion Yachtsman plug, Maltan ready rubbed, and Benson and Hedges Special Virginia. I was able to find Mick McQuaid ready rubbed in a newsagent/toy store in the town of Westport in Co. Mayo.
When in Mayo, visit the town of Westport and have a pint at Matt Molloy's pub named after and founded by the Cheiftan's member and famous for it's trad music scene. Also, stop into Mc Greevy's toy store/newsagent. That is where I picked up a pouch of Mick McQuaid ready rubbed. I remember that they had a few Peterson pipes for sale as well. Like with any other newsagent in Ireland, they won't have any tobacco in plain sight so you'll have to ask for it directly.Mayo is my destination!
