"A full-bodied blend made of equal parts air cured, flue cured, and dark fired. True to the pure, unspoilt tobacco taste. Recommended for the experienced pipe smoker."

As per the label on the tin.
This leaves me with some questions.

air-cured, flue cured, and dark fired what? Tobacco I know, but what kind, Virginia?

True to the pure unspoilt tobacco taste, yet has some kind of toping? Irish liquor I think.

And why recommended for the experienced pipe smoker?
Dont get me wrong its great stuff, but whats with the statements on the label?

I have found that a lots of tined tobaccos say such simular things. They are ambiguous about the composition of the blend. (Dont get me wrong, I understand not giving away the formula) I would like to know basically if its a burly or a virginia.

Then the statement about pure tobacco taste when its clearly topped also gets me wondering what they mean.

The recommendation for experienced pipe smokes has me thinking. Why not the layman?

Usually when it says for "experienced pipe smokers" they are saying it is a strong blend, either in taste or nic or both. That's what I've always heard. I agree with you that it's some great stuff.

I only smoked this stuff once - it's got way too much nic for me - but,if memory serves, the topping it is very, very light, if there is any. The only kind of "Irish liquor" is whiskey, and Peterson's does make a blend called Irish Whiskey.

I smoke quite a bit of Irish Flake and have never detected a topping. Not to say that it's not there - just that I have not noticed it.

Not a thick nasty topping like so many aros, but maybe a bit of Irish whiskey that has been sweetened slightly. I am mostly curious as to why they don't put more of a review on the tin. It would be nice to be able to choose a new kind with at least some info. I really do hate buying in the blind.

I did not detect a topping either but there's a lot of dark fired leaf in this blend. Irish Flake is a special occasion baccy for me. The sheer amount of nicotine of this blend ( more than SG 1792 to my palate ) makes any flavours other than the tobacco undetectable .....

I really like Irish flake however I don't find it to have a noticeable topping. Peterson tobaccos I have really impressed me. I'm not big on aromatics however sunset breeze is an awesome tobacco you get all the sweetness and the taste of tobacco minus the burnt sugar taste .
