Internet Access to Pipe Blog Blocked in Russia

Posted this morning on Facebook:

Passion for Pipes is banned in the Russian Federation. I learned this morning that "Access to a Passion for Pipes from the territory of the Russian Federation is restricted by court order unless otherwise established by the legislation of the Russian Federation, and is included in a single register, as containing the information the dissemination of which is prohibited in the Russian Federation."
I never dreamed that my little blog would ever be banned in Russia. My high school civics teacher, Phil Robertson, would be proud of me.

I would say congratulations are in order! I wish something I wrote had gained such recognition.

I think its because it was promoting smoking. They are not making a distinction between the type of smoking, just smoking in general. There is a big anti movement going on there. Could be wrong, probably am, but Neil does have quite an international following.

There is a considerable government effort in Russia to remove from media images and messages of smoking. The country faces a serious demographic problem caused in part by poor health, but basically a low birth rate, a short lifespan, and hardly any immigration are killing the country.
